could u use a pump for truck tyres for these or is a special compressor needed?never used one so may be a silly question

I think its the valve more than the charging unit.

I use breathing apparatus in work and the connection for a rifle is much different AFAIK.

We charge our air cyls with a compressor so an air line is similar.

    Sorry I can't help further.
As i said McBride in athlone does, as I have seen his air cyl but I never saw him refilling.

AFAIK the air has to be "dry"? so as not to rust the cylinder on the rifle and ruin the fittings

    .

OP, I would ask a few guys in the Target world as I think Sparks and RRPC do Air rifle. They probably know more on subject.

mcbride has a system similar to the clip. Hopefully it proves useful.
DIY could get you in bother, a air refill is €5 I think from memory but I would need someone to corroborate that

A dive shop would be the handiest probably.

Make sure you get your tank serviced properly too.

The rifle club and sub-aqua club in Trinity are located beside each other, so DURC is very lucky to have easy access to refills. Most of DURC's airguns are hand-cranked, so we don't need refills too often either.

Does that mean the fireservice may be able to charge them too?
I'd imagine the connection/valve is the only part required that would be non standard to breathing air?

An air cyl of breathing air is 220~ bar.

What should the OP fill his rifle to? Or would i be right in thinking the cyl capacity would be stamped on Rifle?

The rifle manufacturer should have provided information about filling the rifle's cylinder either by providing a built-in gauge on the cylinder (DURC's Anschutz 2002 has one) or via some other means stamped/printed on the cylinder or in the rifle's manual.

The OP is talking about the tank his rifle is filled from. It's probably a bog standard scuba tank (DURC's is) so anyone competent enough to fill one of those would be OK. A dive shop would be a good place since they could also either do or arrange for the required periodic visual and hydrostatic tests.

As I previously mentioned we refill SCBA in work on a weekly basis, does the OP not need a connector like the one in the youtube vid to reduce down the size?

Our air cyls are around 1" fitting screw type connection.

The OP probably already has an adapter to connect the rifle cylinder to his 12L tank.

yes the op obviously has all the right connector gear from rifle to tank.. and the op isnt stupid.. the op has spent the last year plugging bunnies, mags and grey baks along with his other pcp/rimmy shooting partner..

simple question i was looking for a list of where other people get a dive bottle refilled... that is all!!!

Dive shops are the usual source for a refill. Depending on the size of your tank, the price can be anything up to €20. Great Outdoors in Chatham Street wil also certify your tank which you need to get done on a regular basis.

All PCP air rifles and pistols come with an adaptor to attach to a cylinder. Standard air compressors don't produce enough pressure to fill them, though you can get specialised compressors (UCD has one).

I think its the valve more than the charging unit.

To the best of my knowledge, the air reservoirs on PCP guns are filled to 200bar.
That's approx. 2900psi; waaaaay beyond what a workshop compressor would be capable of. The vast majority of workshop compressors top out below 200psi, and most are set to cut out at 130-150psi.

This is the sort of thing that'll charge to 200bar:

So I could use the works charging Breathing air unit then so, handy to know;)

220bar is ~3200 psi so if i ever bough an air rifle that would be well able to charge it.

Athlone have a sub aqua club also so there are at least 2 places in midlands I know of.
If you have the adapter you are in business.

I have no idea of your location so here is a few other places.

As clive mentioned every fire station in the country uses breathing air 220bar capacity tanks so if you have a cyl adapter they could fill them for you.

I have a manual dual stroke pump that fills 200 bar in about 2-3 mins of a bit of sweaty exercise.

Has worked fine for the last 6 years anyway

Not answering your question directly OP but just in case you're sick of travelling and paying for fills I thought I'd give my experience with the manual pump
