    Mods, I'm not sure where to place this so my apologies in advance. I looked in Soc but couldn't find the correct forum. Please move it if it's not suitable here.

    I know someone who is travelling abroad (Malta) on the 8th of July. She just found out that her passport has expired. Does anyone know with any certainty how long it would take to get a passport if she calls to the passport office in Dublin on Friday (can't go up before then). Is it possible to get someone to collect it when it's ready if it isn't ready on the same day? I know this is highly unlikely given the recent problems there. We tried calling them loads of times but no one is answering the phones. Thanks for any help/suggestions.
