Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As sink said it could work out cheaper if you remeber to put your package back to rapidsmall everyday you're not downloading.

I had 12 days left on my account and now I have 513 rapids. That's not too bad. Even on medium it would last a month. If they let you carry over some of your rapidsmall traffic then I this would be a LOT cheaper for me.

My main issue is still the withdrawal of a reward scheme which means I may not be able to find files as easy as I use to.

Rapidshare decided to delete my 70gig trafficshare I paid for for no apparent reason? Theyve certainly f*cked up majorly with this one, I have sent a email requesting €7 compensation, I think this is fair as I was not able to use a service I paid for, I'll let you know how it goes,

Unused Trafficshare was converted into rapids, 5 per GB.

I really havnt a clue whats going on, maybe its coz I've had a drink but even yesterday sober I couldnt get my head around it, instead of your default daily limit ie 5 gig going over then traffic share being used does traffic share count as your daily rapids or something? Why rapidshare did this I don't know, I cant get my head around it :(

Took them a good few days to get back to me.

I suspect that they are dealing with that many complaint emails that in an effort to try and hold on to some custom, they are replying (eventually) to them all.

I bet you will hear from they yet!

They really could do with posting some simple plain English instructions, I still only half think I know what they mean.

Just went looking for something on a very popular and reliable site and could find on RS links just Hotfile and a few others. Just signed up for a Hotfile account now. 7 euro for 30 days and it's as fast as RS is and I can find what I want.

May be the new one. But i'll have RS for a little while too.

Trafficshare is gone now, it doesnt exist. They converted whatever trafficshare you had left into Rapids (5 per GB).

If you're on Rapidsmall you get 1GB per day, and if you go over that, you get automatically bumped up to Rapidmedium (5GB per day) and 20 Rapids get taken from your total. There's no carryover any more.

You stay at Rapidmedium. You have to manually set it back every time

Also the bit/byte thing has caught some people out, so if you are trying to cut it fine make sure you know which units your download manager is using.

Ah to be honest it is not worth the hassle anymore I am going to get rid of my account. Now just have to figure who to go with this time.

I think it might be time to get over my fear of newsgroups.
I'd love to look over the shoulder of someone who knows what they're doing regarding newsgroups for 20mins.

I actually thought newsgroups was very very complicated but trust me it isn't. Try astraweb with SABnzb+ (it's abit like utorrent without the uploading). You just fill in the settings you get from astraweb and just load the nzbs.

But tbh, I've tried it for awhile and for some reason I just didn't take to it. I find the hosting sites much easier and found RS speeds as quick as newsgroups. You should try out the newsgroups though, just to have that extra option.

This RS system may shaft me though as I share the account with another person, so one of us will forget to manually reset the Rapids. We'll see how it goes..

My account expires on July 18 , as of now I have 669 "rapids" and by default on rapidsmall 1gb perday 4 rapids a day , I would generally float between 1-5 gb a day, so now if i need to go over 1gb I have to go on the site switch to rapidmedium and then remember to switch back later that day

Edit : I just noticed this on the site "As an added feature, users will have the ability to sell their own files via the Licence Manager."
Not discouraging to pirates at all , just discouraging to the "scene"

Do you not automatically go up a level when you go over 1gb and then have to switch back manually yourself?

On a positive note, happy hours still works, scheduled some d/ls last night to test it.

For those who don't know, it means whatever you download between 2am and 10am CET is only counted at 10% of the size. So you could download 10GB on the RapidSmall account (1GB limit normally) before getting shunted to the RapidMedium. And you could download 50GB on RapidMedium instead of 5GB etc.

Thats fine by me. I can stay on the RapidSmall account most of the time, and it'll wind up costing me about €15 per year instead of €55 previously. Big saving. Just means I have to schedule my downloads instead of grabbing them immediately but I can live with that most of the time.

Sent my cancellation email there, account was due to expire in November.

Still can't get my head around what the best way for me to use rapidshare would have been with the new system as I'm only an occasional downloader.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,584 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

If they don't add in an option to not automatically upgrade if you use up all your traffic I'll cancel my account within the week. I'm not going to micromanage my traffic to prevent going up to the next one.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,017 Mod ✭✭✭✭yoyo

I think I'll be cancelling my account also, and will be looking for compensation for the rest of the time, these are not the terms I signed up to, and they have some cheek bringing them in and expecting everyone to change over,

Had my account changed under this crazy new system. Was notified by email.
Now I have to go back and re-change it back! ...And this could happen daily.
Fcuk that! I have better things to be doing than having to log in daily with these sods to re-change everything back.

If you want a hand setting up newsgroups for yourself give me a PM. I'll show you how to set up your client, pick a news server and find a good index site, if you want. :)

I sent an email outlining how bad this change over was and pointed them towards this thread. After that I sent one to cancel my account and of course I pointed out a refund for the 11 months I haven’t used.

I wish they would get a move on, I downloaded over 1GB and I get some baffling email and then I read people are changing back medium to light or whatever it is when this happens. I’m off to hotfile as soon as I have the refund in my paypal account.

Whats newsgroups like for older stuff? I thought its only really good at finding newer content so stuff a few years old you wont be able to find generally?

Well, most servers now have almost 2 years retention (Astraweb have 682 days, but that increases each day), so you'd think only content from the last two years would be available, but content gets recycled, so pretty much everything is there. It'd be worth going to a search site (binsearch.info or newzleech.com) and searching for things off the top of your head. If you're happy with what you see, then sign up to an indexing site, such as NZBMatrix or Newzbin (I recommend the former), and taking a look at their indexes.

I shall have a look and see :) If the price is right might go that route, or I'll probably be going to hotfile, seems to be quite popular these days or megashares, dont like the way they auto renew your sub though! Thats what I liked about rapidshare you could choose if you want to extend

Just got an email from Rapidshare stating that I am offered a "Packageupgrade from RapidMedium to RapidBig".

They never offered me an option to supersize me.

    Now, I am hungry!

Yah, it's back as Newzbin2, it goes on and offline quite a bit though. You should take a look at NZBMatrix, it's €10 for 10 years membership, which is great value.

Sorry for derailing this thread, folks!

Well it was fun while it lasted but they won't get my renewal when the time comes.

Hotfile, SharingMatrix and Netload will soon take up the slack from Rapidshare and they will become the last resort.

I have personally seen a massive increase in the use of SharingMatrix in the last couple of months and so I would suggest to those that are looking for a hoster to check them out.

The changes RapidShare have implemented just seems utter madness to me and I really can't understand how they think they aren't going to take a massive financial hit through loss of customers.

So they create a mess and then cant handle the fall out.

This will only get worse, people(including me) don't know what's going on, we`ll continue to
download and then extra charges or the like could be incurred.

I tried hotfile a few months back for 30 days, if i remember it automatically renews if you don't stop it in pay pal or on the site. Over all links were easy to come by but I wasn't getting even close to the same speeds as RS, maybe if you are on a slower connection you might not notice but on the 20mb connection I was only getting half what I got down from RS :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,354 ✭✭✭naughto

if you use a 3v cards like i do you do not need to worry about the renewing option as if hotfile goes to take it off the card it will not be there, the ony catch is that any thing over 20euro on the cards thers acharge of 2.50
