Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey lads, just looking for a bit of advice before i go to a mechanic(the right mechanic). My amavon has been parked up for the last 16 months(91 amazon http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055602635&page=3) and im putting it back on the road soon. Now although its been parked up i start it every day and let it run for about 20 mins or more, about once a week i drive it to the end of my estate and back, just so the breaks dont seize.anyway lately i've noticed oil leaking from the back diff, where the drive shaft meets the diff.My question is can anyone give me advice on what the problem might be,,is it a specialised job or can any mechanic do it.
    any advice gratefully appreciated,thanks.

edit:can post pics of diff if need be

It could be just a pinion oil seal. It could also be a the breather in the axle blocked which is pushing the oil passed it.

Not all that big a job really

Thanks for the reply slidey was getting a bit worried when i saw the oil on the ground.I asked my ould fella could he could he find out for me(he used to work for toyota dealer)the mechanic he asked said he wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, that got me really worried,he said something about it having to be torqued correctly.
So i take it, any good mechanic worth hes salt could sort it?

The correct way of doing it would mean that the pre-load would need to be set up on the pinion bearing.

In reality if you mark the nut before you take it off and put it back to the same place you will be alright.

    Thats right !

I've got the tbars off mine at the moment, trying to split the lower ball joint for replacement because Mr. NCT said it would fail on that next time round. I like a tight ship.

Hope you get yours sorted. Check out http://www.landcruiserclub.net/forum/

You can still pick up 80 series. I love them. Fella around the corner had gone from an 08 Shogun to 93 80 series and the latter is a beaut. Very easy to maintain and a beast of a machine.
