This will have huge implications on the entire file sharing scene which had evolved away from P2P networks whereby users directly shared content with one another through torrents and the like. Over the last few years filehosting sites like Rapidshare had become the driving force in the filesharing scene.

Users preferred to download directly from the servers of filehosts offering high speed and massive variety of content through the forums and message boards. Uploaders were compensated with rapid points which could be exchanged for free accounts and various gifts could be bought with these points.

Rapidshare was by far the industry leader with other fileshosts like Hotfile, Depositfiles and Megaupload only having a tiny percentage of content available by comparison. With Rapidshares recent moves they have essentially committed corporate suicide and will lose millions of customers in the coming months. Billions of filehosting links will soon go dead and the great archives built up during the last few years will vanish throughout the coming months.

P2P died from its unreliability and poor speeds, Rapidshare implodes itself are we looking at the end of the era of internet piracy??

Do not post links to sites or discuss warez on this thread, it is purely a discussion of Rapidshare the filehoster and not the content on it.
