    Pretty much.
now that our navy is on the high seas of the Med?
Oh, right. Well, in strategic terms it means that if there were a naval invasion, the half-dozen dinky little patrol vessels wouldn't be in danger of being sunk by their bow wakes.

We could be invaded by Spanish / Polish / French / Russian / Japanese trawlers, is about all. Very slowly, mind.

I think Denis o Brien has already invaded the country, aided by fine Gael!

The navy are strategically-located to attack his headquarters in Malta.

Poor Tony not used to giving objective reports and his opinions, it would appear.

Good lad for just reporting 'happenings' and training ground news from Gannon Park.

Capsicum in curry, eh? True enough, I have less of a back pain after a curry. Mind you, too much curry gives me a pain elsewhere.

"You can now podcast The Marian Finucane show"

Those trailers annoy me every time I hear them. Fundamental muddling of agency and direction! -cast not the same as -ceive!

Yeah, you'd think RTE would recognise the connection with the word "broadcast".

The man is a spoofer. He mentioned that FIFA doesn't even submit accounts. He must have been in the jacks when they presented their Financials audited by KPMG at the congress.

In fairness reporting on football is one thing but FIFA is big business

He was based in Zurich covering the conference was he not? It's hardly acceptable that he would tune out on some elements of congress.

I know, what I mean is he's a sports reporter & consequently I wouldn't be looking to him for business knowledge. Then again I have no interest in either FIFA or football :)

Oh sure. I'm not expecting him to give an accounting oversight but at the very least he shouldn't be making factually inaccurate statements.

Why are they are all talking over each other, even Marion's at it, it's very sloppy sounding.

I never heard a guy like McWilliams who is so cast iron sure that his take on things is right and forces his point so much.

I often think, hey, just appoint this dude in charge of the Govt. and everything will be sorted,no problem, he knows ALL the answers.

That's how it seems to me.

In my simple world, it is the function of the host of a studio discussion to keep the guests from interrupting excessively, talking over each other, or derailing the conversation.

In Marion's world, things seem to be different: she is interrupter-in-chief.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,069 ✭✭✭✭Dan Jaman

I find it frustrating that when a caller is just going on to say something that would illustrate a point more clearly, Marion jumps in with her size-12s and stops him dead, with a totally inane question she takes two minutes to pose. Classy interviewing technique altogether.

I want them to give Marian some street lyrics to see how she her posh tones work around them.

"The first song.... Yo shorty, it's your birthday, We gonna party like it's your birthday, gonna sip Bacardi's like it's your birthday......So to speak".

"And now song two.... Bow wow wow yippie yo yippie yay Where my dogs at? Bark with me now.... And .. we ... will ... leave ... that... there.... "

    ..

Is it just me or does Marian come across as a little heartless-cold. I have always felt that, and it was just re-emphasized this morning with her nonchalant and blase reporting of the tragic deaths of those two men in Portmarnock a few days ago. She showed more bloody concern for the Clerys closure. Also giggling at the man dressed as a woman who shot to death a man yesterday.

I'd cut her a bit of slack there Bee, very hard to portray the correct level of empathy to cover every event.

It's a personal thing , that poor lad who drowned in Athlone recently, that poor family is left devastated and will always be affected, but the big picture goes on.

Very harsh and callous, but unfortunately true.

I know it's not on this show but it's fairly sickening to hear Peter Sutherland giving the people of Ireland a lecture in morality on the Sunday news.... "We all have to share".... says he... Next thing I guess he'll be sending a turkey round to Bob Crachits house...

im sure he has the space

We are talking about vested interest here.

I will have to say Suds comes across as an unctious oily individual who is pumping out a line because he is paid big to do so.

Apologies if that observation is not correct.

You seemed to be concerned about the correctness of your statement. Matt Cooper tends to be an expert in correctness. Just suggesting he probably could have put you, eh right, as to the correctness of your statement.

Aah... Ok thanks, my concern was that maybe Suds was an 'honourary' or sommit.

Never listen to Matt, too high pitched for Bren.

It was a terrible tragedy, very very sad for all involved but does anyone else think there is far too much coverage on RTE? I don't think I can take any more of the commentary that has to be delivered in the down beat depressed tone of voice (Catriona Perry, I mean you!) :(

I'm not the chirpiest myself at 3am!
But I agree, an awful tragedy but the coverage is somewhat OTT at this stage.

RTE radio 1 based on the last week to be renamed Vulture FM

Marian basically muttered about the body's of the dead wondering if they were in a fit state to be waked in open coffins. (Stuttered in circles and reversed)

Shocking misery porn. The Queen of stuttering and bumbling rides high.

    Where's the disclaimer???

This is an ad for a hair loss solution provider

Aonghus McAnally displaying his narcissism and vanity all for a few sheckles or free treatment

This is disgraceful radio considering its taxpayer and license fee funded programming

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,654 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Don't know about disgraceful, but it's certainly a very bizarre interview......

    Can't believe he's 60
