Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Another retired guard, sounding very young to be retired, telling us about the difficulties of the job.. Does Marian know anybody STILL working in the public service.. ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

And Marion telling us what "we" all think.

Can't help thinking her we is a number that is falling to single digets in terms of the general population.

Oh and Marion decides not to tell us at all he's a FG Politician !

A fecking hour of free publicity (i.e we paid for it ) for her political friends/aims !

I swear to fuk if there was an option I'd change channel

Does Marian Finucane have a rugby fetish?

She was practically rubbing one out when Ronan O'Gara's name was mentioned.

Also I wish she'd stop making that noise with her mouth. That really sounds like she's picking her holes.

There's another psychological trick that you can use as well.. Pretend to yourself that you spend the whole week reading papers and this will justify to yourself getting paid a fortune for four hours work..

It is funny that this guy on now prob did more research for a laugh than Marion did for work .

    I've a feeling she's taking notes :D

Dear Jesus I've read better reviews of movies on boards than were getting here . Are we paying for this guy ?

    And a show that's 11 to 1 finishes at 10 to.

Anyone notice Marian mention when she was talking to that ex-Garda that something was "mentioned in the brief" .... that's code for a week of research!

Fully agree, it was not very professional failing to mention at the outset of the interview that he was a current FG councillor.

And he didn't forget to get the plug in for the Fine Gael candidate in the upcoming Meath East by election. Nice to see Fine Gael perpetuating the whole "family seat" thing, considering it's been so beneficial for this country over the years

Nice panel of elite pals again today as usual... And two civil servants today, I hope Marion brought the Ferrer Roché. You would think given the state of the country any ex senior civil servants would be embarrassed to come on panel shows like this. But Marion's show is just like the civil service - no difficult questions, no reponsibility for your actions. Just keep kissing a$$ , dont upset anybody and the state fill your bank account every week.

Dear RTE, can we have some real people on the show please... If Marion wants to have her friends over, she can organise another coffee morning..

This is all a bit odd isnt it? Would he not be wiser keeping his mouth shut until the court case is over? He was on Newstalk as well.. I mean we all know exactly what those two yanks are from that CCTV footage in the taxi, but is he risking the defence saying that it is "not possible to have a fair trial because of Mr Furlong's comments in the world media"

I found that whole peice very irresponsible.

Marions made up her mind on the guilt of those involved and gives an example of what our media would be like if they got the chance to comment on cases here .

Look how starkly it contrasts with the Gary o flynn affair where they wouldn't even NAME him for days on end for fear of consequences .

Makes me glad I'm protected by the courts here as Marion and co would clearly bury me if it helped one of hers based on what I heard here

The Late Debate is very interesting for listeners of marian finucane's show.. Brendan Burgess having a real go at a well paid public servant who is strategically defaulting. She should have gone on with marian if she wanted to be throw puffballs all night.

How come Dave Allen didn't merit a clip ?

Half the jobbing comics wouldnt have a gig if not for aping him (im looking at you Dylan moran :D )

It's criminal you can't get his 90 s shows on DVDs. Pure comedy masterclass . thank god for YouTube .

I was only listening it in the background, but I was sure I did hear a Dave Allen clip? I think Dylan Moran is fairly open about Allen being his comedy inspiration. As you say there's no harm in the aping the masters.

On another note, I really like Lawlor as a host. She's a very adequate replacement for Marian.

I find Burgess very hard to take seriously. He was one of the people continuously talking up the property market during the 'Celtic Tiger', and his road to Damascus conversion doesn't really wash with me.

Was he, I cant remember him being that prominent.. Not in the same way as Jim Power, Brendan Keenan, Austin Hughes etc.. I agree with Burgess completely though.. Any "debt forgiveness" (or whatever you want to call it) should not facilitate rich people staying in huge houses... If they are not able to afford the mortgage, then they should trade down to something more manageable.. This will reduce other overheads like property tax, lighting/heating as well..

Like Brendan said to Caroline Lennon-Nally the other night.. If the price of her house had kept going up she wouldnt be trying to socialise the profit, so why should she be allowed to socialize the debt? She is essentially strategically defaulting because she thinks it's all very unfair on her, and aligning herself with genuinely sad cases to get the same deal as them... She keeps claiming "I'm an intelligent woman", yet does not want to be responsible for a deal that she (being intelligent) signed up to, but instead wants me (who she would not see as intelligent as herself) to pay for it instead... even though I didnt buy because I suspected that houses were hugely overvalued and a crash was imminent... But I guess that's her public service mentality, 'I made the decision but I'm not responsible for it'.

Complete garbage. In fact on the bulletin board website he runs, the discussion of property prices has always been prohibited - in the good times and bad...

Well he banned people, including myself who tried to sound warnings about the bubble. He allowed complete buffoons away with talking it up.

However on this issue he is absolutely correct.

edit: I disagree on Aíne Lawlor, I can't stand her. People seem to like her voice and mistake that for actual substance. She's as lightweight as Clare Byrne.

Try this one for size! Brendan Keenan,is still well paid in the Independent and is regularly asked on to RTE panels and asked his opinion.Jim Power too although he has at least admitted he was wrong unlike Austin Hughes, Dan McLaughlin, etc.
The media cheer leaders are as culpable as everyone else for the mess this country is in .

Brendan O'Connor who has no financial training whatsoever also was a massive cheerleader for Bertie, Fianna Fail and the property bubble. He is currently hosting his own show on RTE! Fianna Fail are topping the opinion polls.

Hadnt seen that.. Cant believe that he was so naive about how "well regulated" the banks were, shur he was taking cases in the late 1990s against Irish Nationwide for overcharging and all sorts of nefarious activities.. He must have been aware that they didnt have a computer system, how did he think that they were well run?

So as well as paying Marian a fortune, they now have to pay Aíne golden time or green time to cover for the Queen on Paddy's Day... You really dont get much for your half million these days, do you.. How on earth can RTE allow this to continue, it makes the whole organisation look like a bunch of clowns..

Oh and with regard to Dan McLaughlin

It seems he's still knocking about Callan. You'll notice that it was uploaded by the Bank Of Ireland..

I think it's a bit much of Diarmuid Ferriter writing off Ming Flanagan as being full of "pious rhetoric".. Flanagan has certainly made an unholy mess of this penalty points thing but he has shaken things up in Roscommon County Council they way that it needs to be shaken up in EVERY County Council.. And for that alone, he has contributed more than any of Ferriter's press reports on The Famine..

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,160 ✭✭✭Callan57

Another day and another hatchet job on Luke Ming Flanagan.......and once again Michael Lowrys and that 'phone call' gets completely ignored....

Turned off for the second half of the show - was Cyprus,Corporation tax rate and depositers mentioned at any stage ?

Thought todays show was poor - (g)emma Hussey certainly didn't bring anything to the table

I can't abide Ming but there is something not quite right about a situation where the law does not apply across the board regardless of who you are. It must be a bit of a sickener for a guard to have issued penalty points to someone and then find them being deleted by a senior officer. There is very much the whiff of the golden circle about the whole thing, I just wish it was a TD with more credibility who had raised it.

Agree, today's show was a pathetic effort

You have to wonder how Marian has the brass neck to say "but we've suffered enough austerity" and "we cant take any more".. I can only assume that she is using "we" as a metaphor for "the plebs"..

RTE really need to grow a pair of balls.. They had something like a 16 million deficit last year.. She's a contractor and should have had her fees reduced hugely or not had her contract renewed. All the private stations are in trouble, none of them were ever gonna be able to make her a deal as good as that..
The firm values Finucane’s image rights at €600,000."

I can only assume this is because it is so difficult to catch a glimpse of her image around RTE..
