Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    ...
I tend to filter out the angelus mentally, so I don't notice if it is played or not.

But I think that I recently heard mention that they don't play the angelus on Sundays. Or is my memory playing tricks with me?

You CAN write and keep a job, especially if you're a civil servant in Ireland..

Donal Ryan's book covers how the recession affects a small rural Irish community in South West Ireland.. And where does Donal work? He works for The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation in Limerick.. You couldnt write it.

Marian forgot the Angelus two weeks ago (the few times she works) and had to apologise for it
"My apologies to our listeners, I forgot the Angelus. May the Lord forgive me," ..
"Marian did apologise and explained to listeners that a mistake had been made," the spokeswoman said. http://www.herald.ie/news/rtes-marian-misses-out-angelus-29420946.html

ffs, what a terrible thing to say "Ah I really wanted to go to see Springsteen but I have to go to an 80th birthday".. I'd say the old boy is gonna feel great when he looks across the cake tonight to see the big sour head on yer man...

I wish Aine would cut down the girlish laughter..

I like Aine but her false laughter is starting to grate on me.

No, you're right. There has never been the Angelus on a Sunday.

What is your point here exactly? He stated on a recent Morning Ireland interview that he stuck to a schedule of writing every day from 9-midnight over a period of two years.

Tell me when Aine is gone from that slot as I will retune then.

Upside, knowing no Aine on Morning Ireland.:)

Why are people discussing this topic with the premise that having a Twitter account free of abuse is a civil right... It's a website that you sign up for, and if you get abuse then either sign off, or contact Twitter... It's not the responsibility of the Gardaí... Are they gonna start asking the guards to filter the spam in their email next?

First, the issue is not low-grade abuse: death threats such as have been in the news recently are more serious than calling somebody an idiot.

Second, here in Ireland we do actually have a constitutional right that might be relevant in some situations. Article 40 of the constitution provides
The State shall, in particular, by its laws protect as best it may from unjust attack and, in the case of injustice done, vindicate the life, person, good name, and property rights of every citizen.

Brave interview given by that woman who got the bottle in her eye during the week, peppered with a touch of the usual inappopriate laughing. It sickens me to think there's some scrote going around that has done this to a perfectly innocent woman going about her business. Disgraceful. Mo náire orthu.

Those union leaders really need to be held to account.. They seriously lined their own pockets during the boom times, and have pensions to match.. Socialists on multiples of their members wages, paid for by their members fees.. Always hiding behind "de wurkers" same as Joe Duffy. Nobody will tackle them on this.

Oh, and I have the solution to the problem of websites like ASK.FM and the like... An independent censor, similar to the censor of films, needs to be set up. They take complaints on particular websites and judge whether the website should be allowed.. If they decide some site is dangerous, like that horrible ASK.FM, they ban it and have all the Internet Server Providers block it.

nb. Anybody who really wanted to get to it could use a proxy but this would make it difficult for the average punter just to get to it with just one click.

No good, as thr government would be funding it and we all know how that would end. Any criticism of them on a particular site and they would want them sanctioned!

Well they do it with films, Mike and it works.. They could make it an independent body, inasmuch as anything in this country is truly independent..

Really hope the government sort out this problem with town centres being turned into ghost towns. Clonmel is a prime example, not a patch on what it used to be 10 years ago.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 31,117 ✭✭✭✭snubbleste

There is far too much retail space in Ireland. More losses to come.
As for Clonmel, would you open a business there knowing you can't be insured for flooding?

It's really sad to see.. Towns like Portlaoise as well.. The planning in this country is an absolute mess.. The council allow building of a huge shopping centre with free parking out of town.. And then still expect the shops in the centre of town to fill their coffers with parking money and rates.. None of those planers have lost their jobs..

The show today isnt great.. Too much laughing, people talking over each other, it's like tea in Bewleys with your family.

"I was talking to the head of Facebook and they are doing everything they can"..

yeah, to avoid paying tax to the US.... The Minister let herself be plámased by some Facebook sales guy.. Just ban ASK.FM and send Facebook a list of whatever securities you want built in to protect children or you will ban them too.. It can all be blocked at the provider, people go on like "oh it's a server is Afghanajecki-stan, we cant block it".. YES they can ffs.

Reminds me of that priest from father Ted, the one that said what's you're favorite humming noise.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,160 ✭✭✭Callan57

It's also a bit of a cliché to suggest that ALL these non-standard families are all deliriously happy and everyone is all happy-clappy.

A bit of balance - lets hear from some of the kids and parents where it did not all go to plan, where relationships broke down and adults and children get torn to bits and used as weapons against each other etc.

Listening to this extremly one sided discussion you would think the only happy families and the only happy, well balanced children are those in "non-standard" type families.

Fianna fail bias runs through everyone of the shows on RTE. O callaghan and duffy are worse, they seem to forget that fianna frauds no longer set the licence fee.

Talk about a back-hander - almost as unsavoury as the harping about the pay controversy when the he jumped ship. Found the interview with Jim Jennings smug in the extreme on the News at One too.

    Organised crime,

Fair mixed bag today.. Thought the first segment with the guards was fairly dull.
