Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Like most of the ministers in that FF government, Mary, seems to have developed some sort of selective Alzheimer's disease.

Mary's problem is more to do with conceit.. She said before that she couldnt picture herself going back in to teaching, and that she was happy to go round making speeches at events... She seems to considers herself a serious intellect.. She tried to justify her 140k by saying "But shur i've nothing else to live on".. She's a single woman, she could live on 40k and possibly justify taking a pension of that amount, but she certainly cant justify the other 100k.

Micheal martin must have let them all out from the fianna fail dungeon this week, tom mc ellistrim aka the quiet man has said he's going to run in Kery next election aswell.

Nothing left in the dungeon now only mountains of discarded used envelopes and the galway tent.

Well I suppose if I'm honest, would I refuse €140k a year if someone kept dropping in my bank account? Nope. Someone would have to take a decision not to pay me. That is the problem.

Maybe they thought that actually read: 'make Preparations'.
    An easy mistake to make.:D

I think Mary should just stick with the Lehman's excuse, cos it sounds less mealy mouthed than the excuse she's just given..

Good woman Marian, get stuck in to her, dedicate it to David Frost..

Good man Dunphy... Agree completely with him.. The show needs someone to ask a few hard questions, otherwise it turns in to one of Marian tea mornings with all her civil servant pals..

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭my friend

Fair play to Dunphy for sticking it to Hanafin, not a peep out of her.

Also, I'm a bit confused as to why that man keeps quoting Frost / Nixon as if it is an historic reference... It was a dramatization.. Two key things that are inaccurate about that movie are

    i) The phone call to David Frost the night before the last interview NEVER took place.. This was complete fiction.
ii) David Frost himself said that he never felt at any stage that he was "losing the debate" (up until his knockout blows in the final interview), as it is portrayed in the movie. This was also added for effect.

I kind of lost all respect for the movie when I read that.

Dunphy seems to have shifted his angle slightly. It used to be just 'down with banks' all the time. Now he seems to be getting more nuanced about things. Would this be anything to do with his not being on 'The Premiership' anymore and maybe he sees a future as a politician or a political correspondent.

    Hanafin the dolt!

'Our banks weren't exposed to sub-prime'

    Doesn't she get it? Still?

We have our own sub- prime
    That's what's dragging us down

I cant help but feel that these two girls have well off parents.A lot of media spin on this story.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,160 ✭✭✭Callan57

Not the most convincing story is it?

Why shouldn't she plead guilty - she was carrying the drugs & that was never denied was it?
Surely the issue to be decided is why and whether or not there was coercion or manipulation involved that might mitgate the sentence!

I'm sure he'll bring the interview to a focus group and then adjust the girl's story accordingly.. It's very interesting the way that the media assumes that women caught with drugs (or performing oral sex at pop concerts) are of good character but assumes that guys caught with drugs are of bad character..

You also have to wonder if there is not an element of racism here as in the 'innocent young Irish girl at the mercy of nasty foreigners' sense. If the girls had been nabbed in Dublin airport with suitcases full of drugs, would there be a story at all.

Instead of the Government wasting millions on anti-smoking campaigns, they should just play a 2 or 3 minute advertising segment of Marian coughing, wheezing and spluttering through her show.

    Mary Hanafin.
    Ugh.

I cannot for the life of me understand how any of the last Fianna Fail Government members are tolerated or can even have the neck to give opinions on any show. They should all have been binned or in hiding. Cheeky feckers.
