Swimming in Lakes around Kilkishen/Cullaun

Anyone have any idea if it's safe to swim in any of the lakes around Kilkishen? I'm told by local older people that it is unsafe and/or polluted, however some spots look fine. I'm looking particularly at Finn lough or Cullaun lake, but anywhere around is fine.

I heard of someone emerging from Callaun lake harbouring some leeches so never been too keen myself
