    Hello,

My laptop recently went went kaput so ive dusted off my old PC, reinstalled windows XP and formatted the hard drive.

Ive downloaded the driver for my soundcard (SIS 7012) but I encounter an error as the installation begins. I searched the net for a while to find a solution to the problem and was advised to access the device through Device Manager, select Update driver and manually select the driver to be installed.

Though the installation completed without an error, I still have no sound and Device manager is telling me: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    Any ideas?

    Cheers.

You could try disabling onboard sound in the bios before installing the new driver

Tried it but didn't seem to make a difference.
