    Briefly here are some websites:

    http://www.clonakilty.ie/index.php/site09visitors/accommodation/C5/
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clonakilty
    http://www.talkofthetown.ie/
    http://www.myguideireland.com/clonakilty

    Orientation:
For someone coming from Bandon. One kilometre after the "Clonakilty" sign there is a roundabout [beside a Super Value]. Last exit is Super Value, you take the exit before this. You're on Strand road heading into the town centre. On the left there is The Imperial Hotel and a little further the Clonakilty Hotel.
Driving straight on brings you onto one way traffic. After 400 metres there is a monument. The next street is Pearse Street. O'Donovan's Hotel is 400m on the left hand side of this street.

There are other hotels. They are listed in http://www.clonakilty.ie.

I have never ever stayed in any hotel in Clonakilty.

    Hearsay about restaurants:
    - An Sugan was recommended
    - O'Donovan's Hotel serve a decent lunch and evening meal.
    - Betty Brosnan, Pearse Street serve a good irish breakfast.
    - The Aubergine Cafe, Rossa St. and Hart's Cafe, Ashe St. are popular.

    Orientation:
    Walking shoes on!
We start at The Monument Looking to Pearse St. Rossa St is to the left. Betty Brosnan's is on the left hand side of Pearse St. 200m from the monument. Ashe Street is the street leading into the Monument, same direction as Pearse St. Hart's Cafe is visible from here.

If you are into gourmet dining, hearsay recommends the town of Kinsale. It is within driving distance of Clonakilty.

There is plenty to see and do in Clonakilty. Once I rented a bike in Ashe Street. Walking from the Monument, Murph's bikes is 300 m on the right hand side.

Apropos Ashe Street, the tourist office is about 400m from the monument on the left hand side. [Valid in April 2010]

Clonakilty is referred to as the beach centre of West Cork.

If you want to have a meal for a special occassion in Clonakilty the Market House 3-4 Connolly Street in the town centre is the place to go. Schull is lovely spot alright but the OP is looking for a bit of life as well, Clonakilty would be much livelier than Schull.

I'd recommend basing yourself in Clonakilty and going down to Schull for a spin.
