Zine has some new stuff, some spotlights on Div 2 managers, Div III.3 preview, interview with Ruck_Maker etc., Boardsie Cup mid-stage review...

More to follow once people get back into the swing of things.

    Glad you're enjoying it.

Not too sure about the amount of managers, I'll have to dig up my hit-counter details and see how popular it is, but judging by the comments we've been attracting a fair few of the regulars.

My current project is a genius plan to drag in more views... I'm previewing every Round 5 Cup match! So that's 128 managers that should drop by for a look at the journo team's predictions :)

    Matches 1-20 are already up!

Absolutely brilliant work. How on earth did three bots make it this far?! I've had to fight tooth and nail to survive the last two rounds

Your observation on Glenagragra is well made - their academy seems to have a habit of churning out monster players.

One of the bots, the team Yermen has, apparently just went bot between last week and this. Not sure if the others are the same, I might check that out, but some managers are very lucky.

It shows how many active teams there are. Of these active teams only a small proportion are involved in the off-site. What could be done?

  • Registered Users Posts: 489 ✭✭satory

Im "on" the off site but I dont participate in any form of conversation there...

I've always seen it as mainly an International setup site, and as my youth system is slowly getting up to scratch for me to even consider joining the next UTP(S14?). This site here is where I come to first when I look for answers, etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,746 ✭✭✭✭FewFew

Yeah, I've always found the off-site very hard to get into. The only reason I go there now is this Journalist lark and I feel I'm obligated. It's a hard one to figure out really, but there seems to be a much greater sense of community here on boards than on the off-site.

frankie you better not have cursed me... and also that was a very short write up for my game. you think it will be that cut and dried do you!? ;) thinking of going WNWIM, manager hasnt logged in since 15th and energy levels are good so must be default to this or normal no? I think I could take him on wnwim and him on normal.. despite very few of my "stars" playing... his csr levels are pants.

Mostly because it's a mess tbh. It really needs active moderation to establish some semblance of order.

    Not too bad...

Only 12 predictions wrong out of 62, a success rate of 83%

I just posted up a post-mortem of the Round 5 adventure. I may have got some of my analysis wrong, but I reckon I've figured out the majority of my mistakes.

... except for Porn Stars, still no idea how they dominate in the line-outs when they have shiiiiiite locks :P

More excellent work. Where do you find the time!?!?

And I notice you got Vagrant's prediction wrong also. He hasn't logged on since 5th June and has been playing pretty much the same team and they are all wrecked. (hence they are 5th in the league!)

Hah, ah, I'm on holidays from one job before starting a new one, so this is one of my ways of keeping up productivity, in an odd way.

Ah so Vagrant hasn't logged on in weeks! Damn, that was one element I didn't really have time to check, I only copped the Whitehorse one because of you guys talking about it here. Ah well, that's one confusing match out of the way. Now, if anyone has an answer to the Porn Stars question I'd be happy :)

If someone could tell me that too, the skill levels must be huge..but csr isn't so I duno! He's in my league challenging myself & orizio!

That's just it! His csr is crap, his guys are pretty short and they're really light. He has good CSR on his team, but it must all be in the backs. I would have said he wins by just overloading with the backs, but in that last cup match he dominated in the lineout and pretty much made it the centre piece of his game.

Keep it in the forwards all day long and play drift defense.

Yop, but the thing that's confusing me is how he was so good in the lineout when it should have been his weak spot! His locks are about 10k and he was against taller, heavier locks on 20k. Bizarre.

How do the hookers match up?

    Osvaldo Corbo
    19 years old | 12,824 CSR | 180 cm | 102 kg | Argentina
Left handed, left footed, in moderate form, and perfect energy levels.
A psychotic player with controlled discipline, average leadership, and non-existent experience.

    nothing special... at only 13k...

He's played this guy a couple of times,
    Romain Gérout
    23 years old | 41,769 CSR | 175 cm | 96 kg | France
Right handed, right footed, in decent form, and pumped energy levels.
A conservative player with collected discipline, average leadership, and horrible experience.

He played Cordo, at approx 12k, against Fukuda at 18k.
So he's lost in the hooker-off.

    His two 2nds were 12K and 13K, measuring 201cm and 200cm respectively.
They beat ... holy ****... I think we have our answer... the competition fielded a 194cm 2nd row of 16k and a 201cm 22Ker. Could that painfully short number 4 be the reason for the stealing?
Fair enough, Ravenhill deserved to lose, they had 5 players taller and more skilled than that 194cm chap. I no longer feel bad.

Think I need to roll out my tallest and nail the forwards! ;)

I would not advise the above tactics in anyway!
