The Cyfra card looks ideal although i'm not particularly keen on Polish commentary for the football. The Al Jazeera looks ideal too. Are all their football commentaries available in English or just the EPL, much the same way Premiere (now Sky) used to do in Germany?

90% of the content on Al Jazeera is in English

    NO EPL either

If it works as promised... it should be a good card.
    Exactly,the key word being IF
I dont see how the Premier League would allow Tring to show 3pm kickoffs when they stopped Digitalb from doing so.
I wouldnt believe a word out of Alsat/Darkman ,they have a track record of deception.

translate to English and read this.

Am I right in thinking this is not Al Jazera sports.

IS this channel visible in ireland on any reasonable sized dish.

It is Abu Dhabi Tv completely seperate to Al Jazeera TV.They are competitors.
No chance of picking up 7W in ireland unless you have a monster dish,3-4m.

You'd be correct in that m8 yes, Its Abu Dhabi Sports which is on a satellite that you'd need a dish the same size of a house to pick up.

Lyngsat were saying that they have services on Hotbird 6 also.

Was hoping they would transfer their sports pack to 13 east if they want to compete with Al Jazeera.

What receiver is best for putting these cards into i was thinking about getting humax but for some reason i reckon i might be better off getting a dreambox?

    cheers

  • Registered Users Posts: 208 ✭✭settopbox

    Gotta be a dreambox.

    Thats my opinion anyway.

The 500 is sd and can be got for very cheaply and the 800 is a little dearer but can manage hd.

Plenty of support online for dreambox too.

cheers is there a hd version without the pvr and where is the best/cheapest place to buy one from.............apologies for hijacking the thread

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

    Snaps is right.

Legit dreambox will cost around 400 euro.

Clones are availible at half this price but no guarantees of quality.

Any decent sat website should sell them.

    Even cheaper than half price!!

They seem to be very prone to overheating!

I bought a clone dreambox and the cooling fan started making a s**t load of noise before long. Replaced it with another small fan which was better but not much. Now I have a big fan, (nice and quiet), that sits on top of the box which keeps it cold. A little messy but it does the job!
This kind of stuff you don't get with a legit Dreambox but in saying that, I'm perfectly happy with what I have.
In the end there shouldn't really be a prob with the clone as they are very good but you always run the risk. Personally, I feel that I was unlucky.

I have heard bad things about wizard satellite in the past.

If you are looking for a dreambox clone then UK dreamshop have a good rep around the various satellite forums.

cheers will give them a shot, not too bothered by HD or PVR so would this do the trick? would that take a tring card or similar if i decided to go down that route?

Yeah, if not bothered about HD or PVR capabilities then a 500 is the way to go.

It was my first dreambox :D

It should take a Tring card once you download the correct cam which is simple.

The 500 takes nearly every type of sat card.

I ran a Digitalb card in mine last season no problems.

Just to let you know that you can buy them in Dublin from Satworld in Kimmage either online or from the shop itself. It will cost more €125 but its were I got mine and the box has been flawless plus the chaps in the shop know what they are talking about. Good option if you need one asap.

Aye, its pricey but if you need one in a hurry and cant wait the best part of a week for delivery then its an option. Also one of only two dreambox sellers that I know of in Ireland.

Sure is,you would get a clone 600s for that price and an original 600s for about 50 euro more.
No comparison between the 500 and 600 ,the 600 is a vastly superior receiver.

what is the difference does the 600 have HD?

The 600 has more Ram ,an interchangeable tuner and an ide connector for adding an internal 2.5" hard drive.
The 600 is a far more stable receiver too,my 500 used to lock up continuously and needed reboots every day whereas the 600 is rock solid .
The 500s simply doesnt have enough Ram to do advanced tasks.
The 600 can run a 7 day epg for Sky ,has loads of room for plugins and has a better Lan adapter too.
If you want HD you will need a Dreambox 800 or 500HD but they cost alot more for originals ~350 euro and the 800 clones are ~200 euro but they can be unreliable.

cheers will probably go for the 600

I have bough plenty of stuff from Wizard over the years and never had anything but a great service - I think a few other lads on here got stuff too with no problems.

I wouldn't touch that DM100 though, for many reasons, not to do with the supplier though!
