Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I think Japan might just win this. They looked impressive in the group stages with a strong defense, cohesive unit and the ability to score, especially from dead ball situations

Can only see Japan winning this

Better tell the bookies cause they are rank outsiders in their eyes.

    Really ?

I would go with Paraguay - bookies seem to think the same.

Japan will struggle unless they get some nice dead ball situations near the Paraguayan box. Can't see them creating much from open play.

Paraguay to win this, 2-1 or so.

Bookies had England as favourites too...

Spoken like someone whose only previous knowledge of the Japanese national team was the Danish game last Thursday!

Close game. I'd go for the draw.

Think this will be a very good game actually. Both teams are fairly evenly matched.
Think Japan might just do it

It was basically 7/4 the pair.

Well of course they did - the bookies you are referring to are english/irish and would have vast somes being placed on them.

Nope, I always liked Japan as a side, but I think that the Paraguayans have just shown they are quite a handy side. I don't think Japan will be able to get much off them. I could be proven quite wrong, but I just think that Japan will struggle from open play.

So Paraguay dropping one striker. Clearly they want to make sure Japan won't beat them in the midfield battle. Have a feeling that it will be a boring game. But so long as Japan win(and all my bets coming through for me :p) I'll be happy.

Extra time and penalties, I think.

Paraguay to win 2-0. Really don't think it'll be as close as some people tend to think.

Paraguay will be a tougher test than Denmark imo.

    I really fancy Japan,

Great points from Eamon D on RTE there

Japan are very poor so far.

Japan are very poor so far.

    Both team are.

That Barrios chance is the first decent thing to happen.

    No left foot on Barrios.

Seems to be a shoot on sight policy for Japan, take advantage of the jabulani

    Really poor game thus far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Brutal game so far, but I'm happy enough as I went for a 0-0. Kinda expected this type of game.

Match is muck, unsurprisingly. After a brief blip where the quality improved slightly we're back to more of this turgid fare. I don't think I give a ѕhit about what happens in the rest of this tournament. Spain-Portugal promises to be 90 minutes of cheating and crying.

Crap game, as expected. Just hope someone scores in the next 45mins and puts both teams and us spectators out of our misery.

Although in saying that, nothin' like a good peno shootout :D

Whatever happens, I'd think either team will be delighted reaching Quarter Finals losing to a Spain or a Portugal (who I reckon will beat either team with ease).

I'm disappointed because I thought Japan were on fire in their last match against Denmark.

I thought they would be the fairy tale of this World cup

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭keano_afc

Havent seen a good shoot-out in ages, come on the 0-0.

To be fair, Denmark looked absolutely clueless. Japan seem content to take long range shots and aren't offering all that much.

Same goes with Paraguay. Someone needs to take the game by the scruff of the neck and fast.

    Woeful, awful, horrible game...

Extra time and penos the way this is going...:(

Paraguay have one of the best defenses in the tournament, I really think they can beat anyone but I don't understand RSC having this free roll. I just don't get why they have a small guy through the middle when a big guy appears a much better options against a defense that clearly has issues in the air.

I'd expect to see Cardoso at some stage unless he is in really bad shape.

Ths is a shockingly bad game, any chance both can go out? Please?

The Flah's USELESS fact of the day; Japanese playmaker Keisuke Honda's cousin is a professional wrestler of some note from Japan, Tamon Honda.

    So there.
