Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Machine Shop Dublin: drill/tap/thread insert?

My engine casing cracked at one of the cylinder studs. When it first happened I got it welded, drilled the hole myself & fitted a thread insert. Then on torquing down the cylinder head- yup, it cracked again

I had just (v.carefully) hand-drilled the hole, so I suppose it may not have been exactly @ 90 degrees to the crankmouth. I've already had it re-welded but I don't want to make the same mistake again. Can anyone recommend a good Motorcycle/machine shop that would have a large drill press (would need to take the whole engine lengthways) & be able to do a quality job on this? I live in Dublin 12.

Also, would I be right in thinking that it would be best to try to tap the hole first & only use a thread insert if this doesn't work?

    what type of bike?
would make more sense to get a second hand one of flea-bay or the like, just for peace of mind you never know when it could crack again and piss oil leaving you stranded somewhere.
