Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The commentator on BBC mentioned some player index which listed Capdevilla as no.1 based on a formula of their contribution to games) while Schneider is way down the list. Anyone know what the index is?

    Castrol index

You know its wrong when you have Demicheles and Gerrard!
    JOAN CAPDEVILA ESP 9.79
    2 SERGIO RAMOS ESP 9.74
    3 ANTOLIN ALCARAZ PRY 9.70
    4 PHILIPP LAHM DEU 9.66
    5 MARTIN DEMICHELIS ARG 9.62
    6 STEVEN GERRARD ENG 9.59
    7 JUAN BRA 9.56
8 PAULO DA SILVA PRY 9.53
    9 GERARD PIQUE ESP 9.50
    10 GARY MEDEL CHL 9.48

A massive emphasis on full backs there. Perhaps they expected full backs to be excluded from high rankings as their contribution is hard to measure so they added in extra weightings for something that would help them. Still out of all of them, no Maicon.

I would say its mostly based on how much each player ran than anything else.

Ramos should have used Iniesta there rather than cross.

A poor game so far, Paraguay imo shouldnt even be this far, poor team. I dont think I will even watch the game because its gonna be tackle, misplaced pass, tackle, misplaced pass, shot way over bar etc. More action in a priests house.

    Hope Im wrong tho.

I don't think it's down to torres fitness it's more his mentailty, his heart isn't in it with Spain, there is only one team he is interested in, you'll only get the best out of him in a red Liverpool shirt

Paraguay should be allowed to move their bench 60 feet to their right so the subs and coaching staff can get behind the ball as well.

Of course, I haven't been satisfied by any of spains performances so far, C'mon Paraguay

Any surprise that Paraguay's best chance came down the left with Iniesta offering nothing in terms of defensive cover to Ramos?

Hate this Spanish formation -Villa as a left-winger Iniesta as a right winger:(

Lucky for Spain - they might have the ball but Paraguay have had the better chances

Meh, the ref blew the whistle before the ball even dropped.

Spain's setup doesnt suit him. wish he was on the bench.

Wish he wasn't in South Africa at all.

Xavi and Iniesta are having a 'mare they can't cope with the close attention. Its stoneage from Paraguay but its working.

Not sure if it was right that the Valdez goal was disallowed!

Because it is so more prestigious than that World Cup nonsense!

From watching all Spains games so far I'd be very suprised if they win the WC.

Playing an injured player stinks of desperation tbh.

Valdez was onside but Cardoza was off and made a play for the ball

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,169 ✭✭✭JohnnyRyan99

They've won 1 competition in 40 years.. This is not suprising from Spain.. Whats suprising is them being European Champs! Has everyone forgotten what underachievers they were up until 2 years ago??

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,630 ✭✭✭steelcityblues

Valdez was onside but Cardoza was off and made a play for the ball

yet the ball was clearly meant for Valdez. Not an easy decision to make in a split-second, but paraguay have done alright so far!

Spain have been fairly disappointing throughout the whole tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭_Bella_

    Plus he handled the ball

A nervy 45 minutes and suddenly Spain are no-hopers and Torres is useless? Long way to go, lads. Spain will step it up in the second half and Paraguay will go the way of Argentina.

Paraguay have the best defense in the World Cup, I've been saying it for ages.

People here are talking about Spanish players not looking good, its because of the Paraguayan approach, the are not giving Xavi or Iniesta any space to create.

Its got nothing to do with underperforming Spanish players at all, its go all to do with everybody underrating Paraguay.

I predict Torres to go off around 65 minutes, Llorente to come on. Spain to win 2-0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭_Bella_

Will the curse of the Spanish prevail?

Nah, makes sense. Both national leagues are evenly matched.

In this match there has been one shot on target, and it was in the very first minute...

    Here comes Fabregas :D

Fabregas coming on has to improve spain. Some of their passing has been terrible
