Usually people do Arts degrees for secondary school teaching, majoring in the subjects they wish to teach. As most teachers are expected to teach at least two subjects, don't just do one subject (e.g. maths degree).

Probably Arts in most of the University, UCD, UCC, NUIM, NUIG. Look around aswell because timetable problems seem to arise with Arts courses.

Don't know how stuck you are on teaching business but at the moment there is such an over supply of business teachers that http://www.pac.ie/pgdeinfo/quotas.php?inst=pe have put a quota on business applicants for the PGDE. This means you need a higher mark in you uni exams for business related degrees than other subjects.

Also if you are applying to UCD arts https://myucd.ucd.ie/htmlemailupload/File/arts_grid.pdf is important to note because say you want to do geography and economics as your 2 majors in arts then you should put the code for that combination as per the table linked. You can just put DN012 and leave it at that but come september there is no guarantee you get the subjects you want.

If you study economics to degree level then you can teach business in junior cert and economics in leaving cert.

If you really want to teach business to LC then a business degree might be better, but then you are eliminating geography as can be seen from the list of recognised qualifications http://www.teachingcouncil.ie/_fileupload/TC_Publications/Autoquals_updated_16th_April_2010_59583648.pdf

Some business degrees will allow you teach business economics and accounting while others qualify you for just business so choose wisely but don't overlook the content of the course just to get you qualified to teach more subjects at the end of it. If you hate accounting then there's no point putting yourself through 3 years of hell to teach a subject you hate.

It seems the other option with business is languages. Think I saw business and religion as well.

Of course some teachers are now increasing their subject range by doing distance learning courses after they qualify with the open university and such like colleges. You probably don't want to think about doing even more study at this stage :D but the option is there and you can work at the same time

Take note of which degrees are 3 years and which are 4 if this is important

www.oscail.ie for english and history (cspe also but meh)

http://www.open.ac.uk/ for these subjects and others but no automatic recognition here for some degrees so check with Teaching Council that it's appropriate

You can get tax relief on these courses I believe
