Sheltered spots along the west?

Now that the weather is acting up for a few days can anyone recommend any sheltered dive sites along the west that might still be diveable? And what conditions that site needs....

I'm looking for shore dives, something within an hour or two of Galway?

    Thanks!

Killary - either drop out to scuba dive west and shore dive from there or there is another pier about 10minutes around the headland which gives access directly into the fjord.

Its diveable in there in almost any conditions.

    That's Rossroe pier.

You can try the salt lake in Clifden, its tidal so you get life similar to Kilary fjord. Just make sure to get directions from someone who has dived it.

Swell looked to be coming straight into Killary so gave Rossroe a skip!

Tried out Bothar Bui, Carraroe this morning, was chopping in the center of the channel but sheltered around by Bothar Bui pier so dropped in there and got under the chop. Tide was turning so did a drift dive bringing us half way back to Coral Beach. 15m for much of the drift, few rays, few dogfish... quite nice.

Then this evening we dived in the River Corrib up at Menlo. Had never dived in a river and was intrigued about this spot as there's meant to be 18 or 19m there. Found the hole with depth thingy off the side of the zodiac and followed down to 17.4m. was a great dive! It was very dark but vis was good, not murky as I'd expected. Some nice bits of broken wooden wrecks. There was zero current down there too!

Any more info on the Salt Lake at Clifden would be great! ;) Want to try some new sites, even less sheltered ones for when the weather improves...

To get to the salt lake head to Clifden then follow the signpost to Ballyconelly/Ballinboy.
About 1/2 a mile outside Clifden you will cross over a narrow stone bridge. Pull in to the first gate on the left. You will know you you are in the right place as most of the time there is a huge flow of water under the bridge caused by the tide which is regularly frequented by kayakers. Drag your equipment across the field to the water.
Snorkle about 100 yards east-northeast avoiding the flow of water under the bridge. Drop down and head N.E. It gets quite deep but it is very silty at depth so best to avoid this.
Best to plan this for about an hour before full tide
    Enjoy
