Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking like Bremen slipped into the automatic relegation spot. Losing heavily to Mochengladbach and Koln with a late goal against Schalke

Lewandowski did it. 41 League goals.

Funny story about Union: About 2 months ago Max Kruse was streaming on twitch and people in his chat were telling him about how they could qualify for the Europa Conference and his response was "What the f*ck is that? When does that competition take place? I want to go on holiday."

And now today he scores in the 92nd minute to overtake Gladbach and qualify for it :pac:

Out of interest what makes Union and Köln the good guys and HSV the bad guys apart from Union being hipsters and ignorant people assuming HSV are the devil because our city rivals are considered the 'good guys'?

Hardly anyone cares about Rangers in Hamburg tbh. Most HSV fans are fairly ignorant about what goes on with them.

Funnily enough some of their behaviour over the years flies directly in the face of HSV's mission statement, in particular the sections on inclusion and acceptance of all people. But despite that the clubs formed an official 'partnership' a while ago just because it's good for business and they can make some money selling some t shirts.
(Any time the English twitter admin tweets something about Rangers the likes/retweets are at least 10 times higher than any of the other tweets.)

    Union are hipsters..?

Clearly, you've never been to Tennis Borussia!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Meant 'hip', not hipsters. As in everyone considers them cool.

I think it's partly an underdog thing and partly down to the fact that the fans literally built part of the stadium. They aren't any more "hip" than lost other teams other than being from Berlin (but Berlin doesn;t have as big an intererst in football and most other cities though).

Yes. Their qualification was confirmed after last week's results.

Meanwhile down in the 3.Liga Bayern's U23s were relegated today. They won the 3.Liga last season (can't be promoted as a reserve team). It's very rare you see a team win a league and be relegated from the same division the following season unless it's an enforced relegation due to financial issues or something.

    Kiel 1-2 Köln (2:2 aggregate)

3 goals in the first 5 minutes of the match. Madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Very enjoyable start. Great to hear Tim Caple on commentary too.

Update: Another goal. Kiel in trouble now.

4-1. Must be over now. Great strike.

Any update on the TV rights for the upcoming season?

Bundesliga 2 starts on Friday, no games listed on BT for the opening weekend.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,208 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

Nope. No UK/Ire TV rights have been announced yet. There are rumours that Sky are taking 1.BL, but it's not looking like there are any takers for 2.BL. We're still 3 weeks away from the start of the 1.BL so loads of time for announcement there still.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,369 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

They are sold as a package everywhere so if Sky are buying the rights they'll be buying the Bundesliga rights which covers both divisions.

Whether they'll actually show the 2.liga is another story. Unlike the 1.BL, the 2.BL world feeds produced by the league don't have any commentary included, so if Sky want to show games they'll have to provide their own commentary like BT had to. That is the main reason ESPN+ in the US only show 1 game from the 2nd tier per week. Sky might decide not to bother with it at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,369 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Article from DW released last night on the 2.liga for those who might not be familiar but plan to watch a few games over the coming weeks.

Unfortunately the league's English media/social department have no incentive to put any effort in here so you end up with a terrible 60 second highlight reel like that. Their performance is judged on engagements alone, so there's no reason for them to help grow the 2nd tier and produce good content for it when they can get twice as many clicks for some crap about Gio Reyna or Jude Bellingham.

Good example of this is last season. They produced TWO videos all season about the 2.BL. One was the Aue 3-8 Paderborn result on Matchday 32 because it was a bizarre result. The only other video they made was a Serdar Dursun top 5 goals video. That was made and released 3 weeks after the season ended and only done because he moved to Fenerbahce and they knew they would get a lot of Turkish clicks to inflate their stats for the bosses.

I actually know 2 guys with commentary experience who love the league and would jump at an opportunity to commentate on games, but there is no interest from the league's side. It's a real shame because the seasons are usually always exciting and this year will be no different with so many big teams.

Still no word on a BL TV deal, but the Pokal is on Premier Sports this weekend.

1860 Munchen v Darmstadt on Friday.

Wehen Wiesbaden v Dortmund on Saturday.

    Kaiserslautern v Monchengladbach on Monday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,369 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

The info I have is second hand but I was told the delay in announcing a new broadcaster came down to the DFL expecting the broadcaster to show 2.BL games since the rights for both divisions have always been a package but they weren't interested, so it was a stalemate for weeks before the league caved and gave the broadcaster what they wanted: Just the BL and no obligation to show the 2.BL. There were no other options on the table with only 1 broadcaster interested.

    Pretty s*it if it's true.

That lines up with the Sky rumours then.

And minutes later I see this.

4 year deal. The only seem to be committing to broadcast the Saturday 5:30 game, with other random games on TV and everything else on their digital channels.

Apparently Sky's Scottish football coverage is awful compared to what it was on BT? I suspect the BL could have the same fate. There's no mention of the 2. BL either so I doubt we'll be seeing that on TV over here for the next few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I'm surprised Sky went for it as I thought the fixture times would bother them. I thought BT did a pretty good job. Wonder will Serie A wind up there as a replacement.

As an aside, anyone know why Ireland's TV rights are still lumped in with the UK? I find it strange that what is now a third country as far as the EU is concerned is able to determine an EU member's rights to watch another EU member's league. It's like if the BBC got Euros coverage for the UK and Ireland, and RTE wasn't able to show anything. Why can't we get these other European leagues on an Irish station?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,369 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

I doubt any broadcaster here wants them honestly. There is probably far too much money involved in TV rights to make anything other than the CL rights financially viable.

Nice thing about being in the EU at least is the geographic copyright laws make it easier to access content from other EEA countries. I have DAZN DE & Sky Switzerland subscriptions and can watch both without needing a VPN.

Great start for Mark van Bommel at Wolfsburg

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,208 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

Shouldn't the ref and 4th official have known the rule here and stopped them making the last sub? Athough it is strange that the Pokal doesn't allow the additional extra time sub. I thought every knockout competition was doing it a this stage.

Great result for Mainz beating Leipzig despite having 10 players in quarantine. Picking up from where they left off in the Rückrunde.

Lots of complaints on twitter about Sky's coverage, or lack of. Both games today on their app or something. Some saying it's only on the skybet app?? Sky Football on TV was repeating EFL highlights instead of showing the Mainz game. Mind boggling since they have been using the world feed provided by the league and it wouldn't cost them anything to show today's games.

Leipzig vs Stuttgart not on Sky Sports this evening. They're already making a hames of the coverage.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,208 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

From the start they only committed to showing the Saturday topspiel at 5:30. From the initial announcement it was obvious it was going to be a huge step down from BTs coverage.

Tonight's game and the two Sunday games will be available on the Sky Sports app.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,369 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

They are showing the 2nd Sunday game on Sky Football this week but only because Bayern are playing which is pathetic. From 14:30 - 16:30 they are repeating EFL highlights instead of showing the early Sunday game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,812 ✭✭✭lertsnim

This is the same as when Sky had the Bundesliga years ago. They didn't care about it then either. The least they could do is put the games on their YouTube channel so they can be watched on a television.

  • Registered Users Posts: 696 ✭✭✭Stewball

Last nights game was a disaster. The "live" feed was about 3 minutes behind.

I got this reply from Sky this morning.

Thanks for your email concerning our German Bundesliga football coverage.

Sky Sports has become the new home of the Bundesliga in the UK and Ireland after winning exclusive rights for the next four seasons. Coverage of the league began on Friday, 13th August 2021.

We will show on 2 x Live matches per match day week and we will also be showing 2 x matches on Sky Sports App and the Sky Sports YouTube channel. Typically, it will be one weekly on a Saturday (5.30pm) with an additional three live on Sky Sports app. We have no plans at present to broadcast Bundesliga Division 2 (Previously covered by BT Sport).

The other games each week will kick-off during the football blackout period in the UK (Saturday 3pm kick off and therefore not allowed for live coverage under current UEFA rules – blackout period is 2.45pm until 5.15pm, previously, this blackout was relaxed when no fans were allowed in grounds because of COVID.

We are using the Sky Sports App rather than the Red Button as we believe it will deliver bigger audiences on our app (which is free and available to everyone) than if we make it available via the red button, to Sky Sports customers only, and going up against English Premier League or EFL Championship football.

3 minutes behind and was it also 240p for you? The picture I saw on twitter was really low quality. Like the free streams on betting sites almost.

Gladbach have their pen saved just before ht, probably the only way they look like scoring. Lucky to be only 2 down.

  • Registered Users Posts: 696 ✭✭✭Stewball

I didn't take any notice of which picture quality it was, but it wasn't great, slightly better than the caption you posted.

I switched to a game on LOI TV at half time and that had a better quality stream.
