Meteor sim into a Huawei b260a router and wifi on the laptop here...

    1859392629.png

A lot faster than 3 all of the time here for me... Just outside of Lucan in Dublin :pac:

Usually anything from 2-4 is the norm, not that bad for this time of the day

I thought Galway was bad for Three, but ever since moving to Dublin it's even worse for me:

    1871902740.png

Bear in mind that 1.30am is usually when I get the best download speed.

During the day (as I have posted a couple of months back) it's three times worse, at least.

Was thinking of getting a couple of E586s for the family - as at the moment we just use USB sticks.

Will post some speed tests up this time in a few days and see if there is much difference between them.

Unfortunately not warlikedave..... it's this or eircom dial-up which I'm not prepared to pay 40+ quid a month for! NBS won't help and comreg (like eircom) said it was tough!!!

    Suffer the little children

If ye dont game and dont need good VOIP ye could look at satillite broadband?

Yeah I did look at the option of Satelite BB - my next door neighbour had it installed a couple of months back and I went to have a look at it and to be honest I wasn't that impressed.

High pings and jitter only 4GB monthly allowance "upto" 6Mb download for 40 quid a month plus installation fee....... and after reading many post on here regarding Satelite BB.... well:rolleyes:

When this "thing" works I can get fairly decent VOIP on it but there's just no stability/reliabilty with it. The online gaming would be more for the kids than me (as for me... the only on-line games I would do would be through FB - you wouldn't believe how much money I've lost on Zynga Poker :D)

Kinda between a rock and a hard place really:rolleyes:

This seems to be the max speed (thereabouts). It broke 6Mbps once but not since.

hmm meteor not as good during normal times as it use to be but not bad at a ridiculous hour of the morning

    1874233657.png

Ok signed a new 30gb p/m meteor broadband deal, this is what i get with the Huawei E180 dongle... gona eventually move the sim from the dongle to the 3g router on the roof.. should get decent results

rather content with these speeds, ping could be lower but rather happy

Pings are very low tonight on Three . . :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,282 ✭✭✭-=al=-

Ill give it a few hours before it all goes to sh!t again for both :pac:

    1876201976.png

best result I've got in a while

This faster dongle is actually making a massive difference from the standard dongles and a huarwei 3g router

just taught i would start a speedtest thread for people using midband(mobile broadband) as i dont see fit to post midband speeds in the current broadband and ping test thread as mobile broadband is not propper broadband

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY MIDBAND, AND MOBILE BROADBAND BEING NOT PROPER BROADBAND??

i just thought it was broadband, but just a different medium of it, hope you can explain.

No need for the CAPS lock good sir -we can read well enough here...mobile broadband is not proper broadband due to:

    MOBILE BROADBAND aka Midband

    - no cap on conjestion
    - no garentee of minimum speeds that meet basic broadband standards
    - latency is unstable and can fluctuate by 50ms per packed sent and this is on a fairly stable connection
    - it is not an always on connection

Thus - its not broadband - midband is an good name for it but if you want to be technical ye it mobile broadband which is not the same thing as the following:

    BROADBAND:

    - garentees a minimum speed of a 1.2mb
    - latency has to be consistant, stable and no higher than than 60ms with a max of 5-7ms fluctuation per packet of data sent
    - limited conjestion like 24:1

Mobile broadband aka midband garentees non of this.
