I'm currently in the process of waiting for all my parts to come. Its turned out a bit closer to 1800 than my original 1500 budget, I think thats mostly due to the 60GB SSD and the extra monitor.

    heres some of my parts

    motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A UDR3
    processor: intel i7 930
    graphics: ati radeon 5850
case: Lian Li PC-7FNWB Black Aluminium Case with Side Window
PSU: Corsair 750W HX Modular PSU
    RAM: Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz
monitor: Samsung Lavendar P2250 22" LCD HD Monitor
hardrive: Seagate Barracuda 7200 1TB SATA II 32 mb cache

Should have got the Core i7 920, the 930 is just a factory overclocked 920. You can clock the 920 from 2.66GHz to 2.80GHz easily and have saved yourself €40 or so, it can get up to 4GHz easily actually. The HX650W would have also been sufficient if you're not going Crossfire.

Nice, but if I was you I'd get the 1GB Vapor-X version of that card for less, the 2GB will rarely have a noticeable advantage over the 1GB.

will it help at all when playing my fps games?

the 1gb is like only 100 less, but i dunno if it's not worth it?

You probably won't notice any difference as I'm almost 100% certain the FPS increase would be either nothing or very little.

    ok thanks for that man!!

everything else is fine? gonna order it tonight if it is ^^ lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭VenomIreland

Personally, I'd wait until you get more opinions, also, make sure you are ordering everything you need.

Check the resolution of the tv/monitor, if it is 720p there is no point spending more than 100 quid on a graphics card.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,258 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

Yeah, 2GB is a bit overkill unless you're gaming at 2560x1600, for 1920x1200 or under it's not really worth it.

    things i didn't know i needed lol

    • _ Network Interface Card(like the eithernet thing? for the internet?)
    • _ Wi-Fi
    • _ USB2 card
could the ones from my old desktop be used?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭VenomIreland

    don't worry, you don't need them :)

An NIC is built into the MoBo, as are USB2 headers and ports.

    You don't need a Wi-Fi card.

haha ok grand, i was thinking about going with the 1GB Radeon 5970 card

but i don't know which is better that or the Nvidia GTX 480, any thoughts on the 2?

5970 is a waste of money unless you are running at 2560X1600 or above through Eyefinity.

You seriously need to check what resolution you tv/monitor is. You will see no benefit spending all that extra cash on a graphics card if it is 720p. You would be better off buying a monitor and cheaper graphics card (5850 or something) in that case.

what would a 40" tv be?

what would a 40" tv be?

I was querying it on the first quote above, a 24" would likely be 720p. The 40" would likely be 1080p (worth checking though!)

  • Registered Users Posts: 166 ✭✭gamer_Niall

would it work ok with the card do you think?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭VenomIreland

would it work ok with the card do you think?

The cards even have a HDMI out so all you'd need is a HDMI cable :)

They may also come with DVI -> VGA adaptors, for older TV's/Monitors

  • Registered Users Posts: 166 ✭✭gamer_Niall

this tv has a HDMI port i also have the cable i use it with my ps3 =)

i think that's my build done now :D

thanks a lot for all your help everyone who replied!!
feel free to post anymore suggestions!

A HD5870 is a bit much for 1920x1080. It does well over 60FPS in games like CoD, DiRT 2, STALKER, Far Cry 2, HAWX and Company of Heroes. Maybe look at the HD5850.

You could also get the Core i5 750 and overclock it to 3.46GHz, you might need an aftermarket cooler though, you can get one for about €30-40 or just crank up your fans and apply good thermal paste.
