Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The list was done by picking only one player from each country, i think it was only european countries.

Its not the FIFA 100, an help would be great if you can posat a link to the list, i think John Giles was irelands player on this list.

    Law over Dalglish?

McGrath is a good shout but Ireland's best player was Brady.

Ah Darko Pancev, what a bizarre fall from grace. 94 goals in 91 games and then 16 in the next five years.

Mart Poom is Estonia's greatest ever player. What a country.

Fontaine over Platini? Yeah Zizou imo.
Bobby Moore over Bobby Charlton? Tom Finney or Stanley Matthews for me.
Law over Dalglish? Dave Mackay and Jinky Johnstone deserve a shout.
Giles over Keane or McGrath? ugh each to his own. Keano was the best midfielder in his time in the league, Giles was one of the best in his time.

Northern Ireland had a nice handy one; George Best. Probably the most gifted midfielder to grace these islands... and the only decent footballer to ever come out of Northern Ireland!

    Pauleta>Eusebio

Agreed on Best but Northern Ireland had a lot of top footballers. Pat Jennings comes to mind immediately, Sammy McIrloy was a top class footballer too, Gerry Armstrong, Mal Donaghy, Martin O'Neill, Danny Blanchflower, Jimmy McIlroy, Harry Gregg are others.

Try and pick the best starting XI from that list... not that easy

The bias towards strikers makes a plausible team a bit tricky, but once this team got the ball I'd reckon they'd be pretty damn good:

    Zoff

    Moore----Charles--Bratseth----
    -Best----Giles----Laudrup----Džajić-

    Cruyff

    di Stefano
    Puskas

I'd pick Lev Yashin over Zoff any day!!!

    How about some non-UEFA ones?

There are a few no-brainers like
Liberia: George Weah (Christopher Wreh fans keep it down)
    Panama: Julio Dely Valdez
    Costa Rica: Paulo Wanchope
    Zambia: Kalusha Bwalya
    Iran: Ali Daei

I'd be surprised if many of the posting community here ever got to see much of Giles tbh.

Nedved probably passed out Josef Masopust for Czech Republic shortly after this list was made.

    Fontaine over Platini?

Fontaine wasn't even the best player for France in the 58 WC. Still, doubt his record will ever be beaten

Yeah, he was on a goal-scoring mad one!!

Anyway, he shouldn't be there. Only got 20 or so caps for France.

It just has to be Zidane and I really don't see that there's a worthy discussion about it.

One world cup win, dragged team to another final. Set world record transfer fee, tonnes of club honours, 108 international caps. How can you argue against Zizou?

It seems that the only way you can give it to Fontaine is that he set a world cup goalscoring record.

However, 7 of his goals were netted in a first round match against Paraguay and in the third place playoff against Germany. Zizou got a double in the final.

To be fair on the children and everyone else you should have put NSFW on that photo.

I saw Giles play near the end of his career and he was a football great. Brady was the best of his era and Keane was in his era. But I would put Paul McGrath above them all. He was the most naturally gifted footballer I have ever seen. He made the game luck easy, never got flustered and made some of his centre back partners look good, which in itself was some feat. I would put him up with the great defenders like Baresi, Moore, Costacurta, Maldini, Nesta's of this world. If only he trained.:)

I would have thought Dalgleish tbh.

And I've never seen Just Fontaine play but if he was better than Zidane he must have been one hell of a player. For me Zidane would be in the reckoning for an all-time 11.
