Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lost a speaker channel after moving house

Recently moved house, only a few mins up the road and when setting up the amp and speakers I noticed my front right chanel puts out very very little sound where as the left is fine :(

I've checked all the wires are ok, same result with different speakers as well. Analogue or digital on different inputs makes no difference either.

Can't see how it just stopped working in the space of a couple of hrs.

The amp is a Marantz sr5400.

    Hi,

Have a check at the audio setup menu on your Marantz, is it possible that the audio settingss were changed by accident ?

    Hi Ritz.

I checked that, there's sound from all but one speaker with all value's set the same.

    jozi,

Try checking the source - is there a R/L balance on the source you've got plugged into the amp ? Also, check the cable used to connect the source, one side could be faulty and check the speaker cable thoroughly - replce the sepaker cable on the right side and make sure that there is no short circuit.

Failing a full check of the signal chain from the source through to the speakers, time to get it checked by a competent repair outfit if its worth keeping, or replacement otherwise.

I've swapped speakers back and forth and reversed the L/R channels on the analogue input.

Where/who would be competent enough to check it and do a repair job?

I have just sent my Yamaha to a guy in Dublin to be looked at, (the rear right channel was outputting white noise)
    Yamaha gave me his number.

if you pm my i will pass it on to you.

hi-fi hospital in blanchardstown specialise in marantz ,this is a common problem with marantz by the way eventhough they make brilliant stuff

I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Does it normally just happen or is there a reason or something that brakes it?

connections on the board can weaken due to heat buildup and the moving probably caused a solder joint to fail

did you get your amp sorted and if so what was wrong

Well, eventually in November I think I got it left in to hifi hospital. Explained the problem, they diagnosed the amp and found nothing. Finally got a chance tp pick it up last Friday, he connected the 2 front and rear channels up and demo'd them and all was fine

So the amp is sitting on my desk now with just the fronts connected. My Gale floor standers have a driver with a not so healthy coil and I was advised not to use them until I replace the driver unit.

If anyone know where I could get a new driver unit I'd be delighted to hear! Hifi hospital were onto richersounds but they never get back to him with the query for a new driver unit.

At least I can listen to my music again through decent speakers :)
