Does AAI have to pay rte to show the athletics?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,695 ✭✭✭Chivito550

So we couldn't have live streaming and JTG commentary all for absolutely nothing?!?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,370 ✭✭✭pconn062

Ongoing issues mean it will only be available in the RTE player apparently.

Bet there won't be the technical difficulties for the GAA highlights after it

I don't understand. If it can be shown on RTE Player then why can't it be put on TV?

What a lost opportunity to have non athletics people watching the event.

I presume they mean when it's resolved they will out it up there for viewing.

If that was rugby coverage Ryle Nugent would be handing out P45s

Amateur hour blaming tech, human error clearly to blame. On the upside we were treated to a 5 minute rattlesnake documentary filler.

No on-screen clock. That's a tech problem alright.

RTE never have an on-screen clock, do they?

Never noticed before. Can't imagine why not, technically it's not a difficult thing to do.

I'm pretty sure they don't usually. Can't remember when they ever have?

Whatever about having no on screen clock, they're not even giving the winning times at the ends of all the races:confused:

Did George Hamilton say difficult outside lane for 200m?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,695 ✭✭✭Chivito550

George Hamilton was saying that Harry Purcell in 3rd place could well be on the plane to Prague after the 400m final. He hasn't a clue.

Jerry Kiernan saying "with Mageean injured and O'Lionaird crying off, we only have one real medal chance now."

    Not holding back.

Doesn't mince his words does Jerry.

I forgot about the relay. I guess George didn't mess upon this occasion so

    A results system issue again?

Whatever the cause of it, I'd assume the Glohealth marketing people would be annoyed at missing the slot, mistakes like that can have a bad effect on renewing deals.

Anybody else have an issue watching the rerun of the delayed RTE coverage on the RTE Player?
I tried watching it on UPC and after ~33mins an ad break cuts in, screen goes black, so I tried to fast forward through the ads.
Nothing but a blank screen for the rest of the duration.

    More technical difficulties?

Team Ireland seems to consist of bought-in highlights from Setanta and their own in-house productions.

I've seen athletics, cycling, handball and soccer on there before.
