Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Should have been a free outside the box for me.

Everyone who said the winners would come from this semi, may want to revaluate after this first half!

    This is boring stuff :(

Spain need Fabregas on, they always seem to improve when he appears!

That was a foul, possible outside the box tho.

You mean Hamilton? He gets €500,000 a year to make that mistake plus all expenses and god knows what else he gets up to

    Definitely a foul on Ozil.

If this were a wet and windy Monday night at the DW Stadium you could excuse the pitch there probably having been a rugby league game two days earlier, but for the semi final of a world cup? No way Jose.

I think the idea that Spain are an exciting team is a myth.

Pass across the line a bajillion times, look for the odd through ball after they've passed it sideways for about 10 minutes.

I don't get how Holland are slated as a boring team and Spain are praised as exciting.

Barcelona are the 'fashionable' club of this era, but that hasn't made the criticism of Holland always right!

I think this can relate back to my point earlier about Spain being Barcelona without Leo Messi, they've no one who can pick up the ball in midfield, run at players, play killer balls and wreak havoc in the defense.

The lads say it was a peno.

Even though I am shouting for Germany I didn't think that was a foul on Ozil, mainly down to the fact that he left the ball behind him. If his touch was ahead of him things may have been different.

One fascinating thing is the difference in the centre backs of both teams. Pique and Puyol are Barcelona players, yet Mertesacker and Friedrich (who was just relegated) look far far more comfortable on the ball.

I enjoyed the first half and I think it's a fascinating game of football.

Spain pass pass pass . That wont win the game. Dunphy is talking them up and cutting the Germans as per usual.

Dunphy lost his arse backing Brazil, maybe he backed them with Stan James and is hoping to get his money back if Spain win the world cup.

He called Alonso Xavi minimum once.

And yet if we keep going like that Spain will win this

That first half was boring. I actually fell asleep during the last seven minutes. Was awoken by that African kid on the RTE credits shouting 'Gnaaato'! (What does that word mean?)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭flahavaj

Barca are great in possession so far but without Messi they have no penetration.

  • Registered Users Posts: 908 ✭✭✭The Cannibal

I think Villa playing more central is hurting Spain's penetration too. He is the only guy they have that can take on players and he's playing as lead striker instead of out wide. He's isolated.

still fancy Spain for this. For all the sideways tippy tappy, they look more like scoring to me. Awaiting some Villa magic.

This is a terrible match, very dissappointing, thought it would have been a classic.
