Gears sticky?

hey, just looking for a quick bit of advice if it's available?
I drive a 98 fiesta flight with 63k miles on the clock, and last week, the gears started getting very sticky, to the extent it was nearly impossible to change from 5th to 4th without serious effort. I brought the car to the garage Friday, and the mechanic said the gear box was beginning to dry, so he put fresh oil in, and away I went.
It's now running fine in the lower gears and climbing up the gears is no problem, but it still feels very sticky going from 5th to 4th. Does the oil take awhile to re-lubricate the gear box or should I be looking for another mechanic and maybe getting the cylinders checked out?
    Thanks.
