Does anybody know of any other shows in the same vein as Sagan's Cosmos? And not internet videos, more the kind of thing you could buy on DVD and give as a gift to someone? Thank you!

I just watched a PBS three episode series called 'The Human Spark' which I found very interesting. It investigates what makes the difference between humans and the rest of the animal kingdom. It even delves a little into the origins of religion as a by-product of our cognitive evolution.

A stream is available on it's website but it's low quality.

There are higher quality version out there if you know where to look.

would the attenborough documentaries be the sort of thing you're looking for?
most are not *about* science, but he did one about darwin.

Thanks everyone, now off to youtube to see clips to decide which is the right one to invest in!

Although I love Attenborough's stuff, it is not what I'm looking for this time though.

If its not just tv shows/series you're looking for, the film "The Man From Earth" is a very good watch.

It kinda fits in there, it is a "documentary about science".

Getting back to the OP, there's a good site www.philosophymonthly.com which
    has some good podcasts.

For example, Daniel Dennet and Baggini in conversation here..

Sam Neill narrated one called, Space. I think the BBC comissioned that one. Though, I heard it's more style (CGI and cool graphics) over substance.
