    Apologies if this is the wrong forum!

    Firstly, I'm not adopted!

    Basically I want to find my dad. He left before I was born. I know his first name - nothing else. For various reasons, I can't find out more.

    Do I have any hope, or am I up sh1t creek without a paddle?

    I'm presuming he's not on your birth cert? Was your mother married to him? If so, then get the marriage cert.

    Do you know anything else about him - where he lived (where your mother lived before you were born if they lived together), where he worked etc.
    Any of these things can be a start.

    Going on a first name only and nothing else will be difficult.

    I traced my father using only a nickname and the place he worked in a particular year. It took 7 years, but it can be done. :)
