Just wondering if anyone has heard any of Fr.Lawrence's talks, and what they thought of them/him.

Also wondering if anyone practices christian meditation, or what people's perspectives on it are, where does it fit in with their faith?

Here is a good guide: http://www.beginningcatholic.com/how-to-pray.html

And this on Christian meditation: http://www.beginningcatholic.com/christian-meditation.html

I've not heard of Fr Lawrence, so can't comment on him.

In Orthodoxy, it's a no-no to use words only as a set syllabuses without concentrating on the meaning so all those mantra-style meditations as practised by Fr. Lawrence's groups would be considered a dangerous practice. Also it's a no-no to let imagination work over any scenes or images (even an icon) which is on the other hand is permitted and even advisable in Catholicism.

cheers, I had a quick read of the first link, and will return to it when I get the time. Had a qucik glance at the meditation thread also, and just wanted to raise one issue with something said in it, about eastern mediation practices.

Eastern meditation practices aren't necessarily about emptying the mind, they are about realising the true nature of the mind, and they also use mantras, which are actually prayers.
