Recording advice for a nylon string guitar needed?

Looking to record an acoustic/nylon guitar with a pc I know I need a good mic - condenser probably, is there a method of hooking a good mic directly up to a pc using a sound card i.e a sound card with an xlr input or should i be using a intermdiary device and connect that to the pc? Steve
