Has it always been like this, or is this a recent problem?

Try disabling the routers own firewall for a start.

    Care to post a tracert?

    ok.

So has it always been like this, or has it recently started?

Please post a tracert to a server like google.com or maybe a uk game server like multiplay.co.uk

If you don't know how (but assuming you do)

Open a CMD prompt, type "tracert boards.ie"

and post the result here (either take a screen shot, or copy and paste into notepad, and post reult here).

Have you checked if UPC are doing any work in your area?

Thats slightly concerning. Have you contacted UPC about the problem?

Are you using wireless or ethernet?

If using wireless, connect via the ethernet cable, and see if the result is the same.

If it is, UPC are at fault for something.

Seriously, read the thread before posting useless comments.

Seaneh - they may not speak to you. Is your housemate out for the day? Did you not receive an ethernet cable with the router? Check the box if its still lying around.

I'm paying half the bill after all.

You might be able to get named on the account, I know I can deal with them on my UPC account, though its in the gf's name.

Bryaner - my thong is firmly routed to my ass. Don't worry about that ;)

I deal with UPC all the time and I'm not the account holder. All you need to do is confirm the account number, home address, name & phone number.

Well that puts pay to that so.

Give them a call and tell them to sort it out.

It seems to have resolved itself.

packetloss down to between 0% and 2% and pings between 16 and 30. jitter between 13 and 40ish. (ran the test 10 times, these are the variables).

Must have been something UPC were doing on the network. When they're upgrading parts of their network, its very possible to experience issues like this.

Keep an eye on it for a few days, just to be sure, to be sure :)
