Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Zoom lens

As I play more and more with the camera, it's becoming increasingly evident that I need a zoom lens! Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent, not incredibly expensive zoom lens (say to 150mm or more) for my Canon EOS 450D?

    Cheers!

The term is telephoto, not zoom, a zoom lens has a variable focal length, even wide angle lenses can be zooms.

    GL with the hunt.

Sorry, my first post probably wasn't worded very well - I'm definitely looking for a zoom lens rather than a telephoto lens (telephotos have fixed focal lengths, right? I'm looking for a lens with focal range of, say 55mm to 150mm/200mm or thereabouts).

You're looking for a telephoto zoom.

    That's the one, cheers!

    So any recommendations?

    What's your budget?

Unfortunately not very high (but negotiable...)
I'm hoping £150 (GBP) or less - I know I can't expect an amazing lens for this price, but if anyone has any suggestions that'd be fantastic.
I've found these (EF 75mm-300mm - F/4.0-5.6 and EF-S 55mm-250mm -F/4.0-5.6) in my price range, but reviews warn about poor image quality - anyone have any experience with these? For a beginner is the image quality with these lenses anything to worry about? Would I be better maybe saving for another while to get something like the L F4 70-200 that Moman suggested?

I can't tell you what to do, if you had the money I'd say go for L glass, but then, what shots would you miss out on while you were saving up?

FWIW all these were taken with my Nikon 55-200 kit lens, which is most likely no better than the canon equivalent.

Why not buy the one you can afford now, and get saving for the next one, you can always trade it in/sell it, when the time comes to change.

Yes! I like that idea - it satisfies my impulsiveness and gives me a get out clause later on!

    Cheers!
