Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Long story short, the original picture was taken before the challenge opened and therefore was not taken with the express purpose of the challenge, and therefore contravenes the rules. I won't be making that mistake again.

I really like your B&W PP and the crop helps too, but I got to add your cut and paste needs abit of work:D

Did you not cut the portrait from the origional and place it on a black background???

My reason for saying that it was, is because the guy's face profile is almost totally smooth and does not resemble the original photo.

The original photo on your pixie clearly shows his stuble protruding out past his skin, his left eyelash fluttering in the breeze, the hair on his neck sticking out too. Instead we're left with a lassou tool type cut of the person plonked onto the background.

If this edit was not use well then my apoligies....and would you care to explain where all the detail above is gone???

Against a pure black background anything like stubble, hair etc was going to get lost. I didn't actually cut and paste on to a black background. I used the lasso to select his head, then blackened the inverse selection. What would you have done?

Same difference, so I would'nt have answered my question with ???
This all seems very trollish so I'm going to stop now. Thanks for the reply.

Another way is to add a levels layer and push the slider to the right to get the desired blackness, then using the paint brush, erase through the head back to the correctly exposed layer underneath. Zoom in for more control around the edges. Bit slower but works better I think. This also works if you want to blow out the background in a portrait (obviously by moving the slider the other way)

Thanks Denis. I'll try that. I like what you've done on that portrait you linked to.

Can we get someone to officially declare a winner and then get the winner to set a new challenge- I'm chomping at the bit:D

Normally it rests on the shoulders of the previous winner (in this case Pearljamfan) to officially declare the winner of 'their' designated photo challenge.

But seeing as how the result is now 2 days overdue - may I be so bold as to announce that

    SQUAREBALLOON

is the winner with this stunning shotIMG_9436edit-1.jpg

Can we ask the winner to set a new challenge?

And Suggestion- let it finish at 8pm on a Sunday.
It makes life a lot easier:)

Well done squareballoon, it's a super shot and a well deserved winner. The beauty of it for me was that it was so simply done. Sheet of paper and a scarf - how simple can it get. It's definitely one for the wall.
