    Hi Guys

Need some help...have been searchin through loads of travel advice sights to try to find somewhere to go away for a night with my partner but when I find a hotels im interested in I find both great and bad reviews. I wouldnt be picky. Budget would be approx E150 for the night for the room (inc breakfast would be great). Im not picky as to where its located. Driving distance from the midlands defo 2hours max. from westmeath. A Spa would be an added bonus (for a treat) as would as pool and gym.

Any ideas on a location or hotel that anyone has stayed in???

    Thanks guysredface.gifredface.gifredface.gif

The Radisson is a very poor standard of hotel - I've had friends stay there & they had nothing but complaints about the place.

The Clarion isn't bad - close to the centre too, as is the Glasshouse - though out of the the two, the Clarion is a lot better. The service in the Glasshouse restaurant is desperate & unlike the Clarion, it has neither a Spa or swimming pool.

If you're looking for something a bit outside Sligo, Cromleach Lodge is excellent. www.cromleach.com It has a spa, though no pool. The restaurant is excellent - expensive, but worth the money & they have special offers for last minute bookings, eg., One Night B&B in a Deluxe Lakeview Room for €150.

Stayed in the Clarion recently, room was fine but the breakfast was the worst I have ever had in and hotel or b&b in this country. I'll eat a fry in almost any condition but this was disgusting, completely inedible. Only previous time I'd stayed there we'd awoken to news of the pork crisis so hadn't experienced the gristle they called bacon and sausages. Urgh, even the eggs were bad this time - all rubbery and tasting like the coating on their frying pan was burning off. (happened me once and this tasted like that smelled.)

Seconded, my oh took me there and is still cashing in on the brownie points!! The food, service and views around the area make for an excellent get away.

    +1 Castle Dargan, beautiful hotel!

Castle Dargan is a nice enough hotel, but their food is, meh, average at best & at worst, likely to give you food poisoning. Their kitchens were shut down last year by health inspectors from the HSE after they were found to be posing a threat to public health.

We ate there weekend before last and I doubt I would ever darken the door again.

    It was quite poor.

Give Cromleach Lodge a try, you will not be disappointed. It's in a totally secluded place about 10mins off the main road and has the most amazing views, the food and hospitality are second to none.. it's 10mins from Boyle, 15mins from Carrick on Shannon... check out their wesite...

oh and the spa is amazzzingggggg!!!!!!!!!

if you want to totally and utterly unwind this is the place for you :)

+1 The above are all 4 stars hotels, as far as I know.
The Radisson is the best hotel in Sligo, its amazing. Lovely pool + spa too.
Have stayed in Cromlech lodge too and the food and service was not great there, and there is nothing else to do near it, no pool, beach, town or anything. Not sure how many star Cromlech lodge is, but would not stay there again. It may depend on the staff on duty etc.

well I have stayed in Cromleach on 3 occassions and am going again in 2 weeks for the weekend and each time I can't wait to go back..

As I said if you are looking for a totally relaxing experience it's the place for you otherwise you are better off going to a town with a big hotel and no atmosphere..
