Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Here is mine:

    4: Juan
    5: Pique
    6: Schweinstiger
    7: Sneijder
    8: Ozil
    9: Klose
    10: Villa
    11: Podolski

I would have mulluer in there instead of podolski. I would also have at one of the Uruguayan midfielders and Saurez in there.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,528 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Pretty good line up. I wouldn't have Podolski and would try squeeze Forlan in somewhere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 317 ✭✭goddevil

No Forlan? He should be a shoo-in for every team

    Casillas

    Lahm Alcaraz Mertesacker Maicon

    Mueller Schweinsteiger Sneijder Ozil

    Forlan

    Villa

id take out podolski and replace him with sanchez from chile. thought he was immense and will be surprised if hes not looked at by some big clubs

Don't have time to do a full team but Kuyt would be the first name down on my team of the world cup.

This team would be mine. I'd have a real problem putting Pique on my side tbh. And leaving Forlan off, well ... that's just mad.

    Neuer

    Lahm----Pique
    Juan----Coentrao-

    Perez

    ---Schweinsteger
    Sneijder

    --Mueller
    Forlan
    Villa

    That's my attempt anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,910 ✭✭✭✭whatawaster

I think the entire Spanish back 5 has had a woeful world cup. They've barely been tested and when they have been they look lost. I honestly think people are just picking Casillas and Pique on reputation.

    Neuer

    Lahm
    Heitinga
    Juan
    Salcido

    Khedira
    Schweinsteiger

    Ozil
    Snjeider
    Villa

    Forlan

    Suarez in goal anyway :p

    Lahm
    Lucio
    Pique
    Maicon

    Robben
    Schwienstieger
    Sneijder
    Özil

    Forlan
    Villa

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,448 ✭✭✭evil_seed

It's tough to pick between Muller, Podi, Forlan and Kuyt.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭flahavaj

    Julio Cesar

    Maicon
    Juan
    Alcarez
    Lahm

    Schweinsteiger----Schneider

    Ozil

    Mueller
    Forlan
    Villa

I think it was a terrible tournament for goalkeepers, I picked Cesar as the best of a bad lot, but even he hardly covered himself in glory for Holland's fist goal. Maicon just shades Lahm at RB but I'd have no argment with the German either. I just though Maicon was absolutely amazing, he didn't put a foot wrong the entire tournament. I put Lahm at LB as he has played there before and he has to get in the team somewhere

Can't understand people picking Pique myself, for his unbelieveable stupidity in giving away the peno against Paraguay he shouldn't be in anyone's team and Spain in general have looked shaky when teamns have actualluy gotten the ball off them and had a go. I though Juan was very good for Brazil a good old fashioned hard man and Alcarez was also really good. Generally there are less outstanding defenders in the world at the moment than there were 4 years ago.

The rest pick themselves tbh, Schneider is little deeper in this team than he plays for Holland but I couldn't leave he or Ozil out.

for me id have to have the following,

    Neuer

    -Maicon---Alcaraz---Juan---Capdevila-

    Veron

    Oezil
    Sneijder

    ---Mueller
    Forlan
    Villa

Inclusion of Veron might be a bit controversial but IMO he controlled the game when he played for Argentina, dictating the tempo and passing extremly well, his exclusion from the team resulted in Messi dropping way back into midfield to try to gain possession of the ball and thus nullifying one of Argentina's biggest threats..again, just my opinion

    Neuer

    Lahm----Juan
    Friedrich
    Coentrao

    Basti Fantasti

    Sneidjer
    Ozil
    Forlan

    Villa

Has pique really been that good? My only memory of him in this tournament has been him giving away that stupid penalty against Paraguay.

  • Registered Users Posts: 317 ✭✭goddevil

Did i really just see someone pick Casillas?

He was poor against Switzerland. But he's improved steadily as the tournament progressed and he is the best keeper left in the tournament. The blame also partly lies with the back four of Spain who've been woeful. A keeper can only be as good as the defenders in front of him.

    No is the simple answer.
Apart from giving away the penalty, i think he's looked at 6's and 7s on the few occassions Spain are tested. Not just him, but Casillas, Ramos, Puyol and Capedevilla too.

This will sound incredibly harsh but I blame the ball for 3/4 of Forlan's goals.

    Casillas

    Juan
    Freidirch
    Capdevila

    Pereira

    Sneijder

    Robben
    Iniesta

    Villa
    Torres

Wasn't sure about Xavi or Sneijder, but Sneijder has been outstanding.

I would have Ramos ahead of Maicon for the Portugal game alone.

    Also +1 for Kuyt.

I know that Sneijder scored 4 jammy goals against Japan, Brazil and Uruguay. What was his other one?

I know the only reason you put him there was to get an aul reaction but I couldn't let the opportunity pass without saying epic fail or something equally derisory.

Why are so many people putting Maicon at left back? Or am I reading it backwards and Lahm is being put at LB? Not a back tactic as he can play on either side but not really reflective of the World Cup.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,361 ✭✭✭Boskowski

Any of these fantasy team managers without Lahm & Schweinsteiger must have been watching a different world cup.

Surely the team has to reflect where people actually played in the World Cup. My team as things stands would be this one. Midfield is top heavy with more attacking players but I could not decide between Ozil and Sneijder.

    GK: Vincent Enyeama

    RB: Lahm
    CB: Mathijsen
    CB: Lugano
    LB: COENTRÃO

    CM: Schweinsteiger
    CM: Sneijder
    CM: Ozil

    RW: Muller
    LW: Villa
    ST: Forlan

I agree. Forlan did not play as a lone striker up front.

It will be impossible to pick a formation that suits as every team has differences. But Forlan as a withdrawn striker compared to me having him on his own is not as big a difference as left-back/right-back. At least Forlan did actually play as a forward in the centre.

In fairness I could also be using the Roma/United no striker approach :D

Aint really fair to include Rob Greene, he was their joint top scorer after all and to be fair some French players deserve the honour just as much.
