    Hey
My Mrs wants to have a go at tattooing, very arty and skilled hands........
Apprenticeship would be pretty much out of the question for the moment as we both work full time and have the usual bills etc..
I'm more than happy to be her guine pig for the moment
and was looking at this for her with a couple of pig skins for practise

    <link removed>

    cheers

    Hi Blaze1,

I've removed the link, as it'd be a breach of the forum charter:
    • Do not link to material which may be offensive or encourage people to do silly things.
      - Includes hotlinks, pictures or videos.
      - Covers home piercing kits, genital piercings or tattooing.
      - Nothing 'extreme', we have an extreme forum especially for such things, but access has to be granted by the mods.

I would really not recommend going for this, unless she is shown by someone how to use the machine properly, as they are serious pieces of machinery that can cause real damage to someone if not handled correctly!

An appreticeship is really the only way to go about it. You need to be shown how to handle the machines, how much pressure to apply, techniques, hygene, sterilisation etc...

It's not as easy as just picking up a machine and putting it to skin. Wait until you do have the time to do an apprenticeship. The last thing you want is to be sued by customers after getting infections and the likes.

LIke the others have said, she should really be looking into an apprenticeship.

Anyway, if she wants to practise for a while until circumstances improve so that she can do an apprenticeship, practise on pig skins and oranges.

Do NOT let her tattoo you under any circumstances, no matter how well she does it on pig skins. There are huge hygiene issues and such and there's no point in risking your health for the sake of your wife practising.

And so thanks to eBay another scratcher is born. We see an average of 4 or 5 people a week with blotchy, scarred tattoos, done in somebodies bedroom, desperately needing to be covered up. Due to the fact that its unlikely any of these "artists" have ever seen an Ultrasonic cleaner, let alone have access to Autoclaves etc, its a wonder the country is awash with hep or worse!
If your wife really wants to be a tattoo artist, then you need to make sacrifices and let her apprentice to a decent artist. If however she wants to do it to make money, then you need to go out and stick the cost of the DIY Tattoo kit onto Belgium to win the World Cup Final.
