Reporting Social Welfare Fraud?

I keep on hearing about or reading accounts online of People who say they know of someone who is scamming the State claiming Social Welfare payments they are simply not entitled to.

Usually they finish up by saying something like "I'm just saying its sickens my stomach to see them having their 2 sun holidays a year and going out on the Town drinking twice a week - but I am not going to report them....."

    Why the fcuk not?

They are robbing from Society and leaving us in a Country without adequate Schools, Hospitals, Roads, Public Services to briefly mention the obvious - while at the same time they are robbing from a pool of money that's supposed to be for good, decent, honest and genuine People who are down on their luck and so need State Support for some period of time.

If you are sick of watching People take the absolute píss out of us all while living like Gangsters with equal amounts of cash and spare time then make the call, its anonymous and should take 3 minutes, details are as below - I'd love to hear back on this thread of some Scumbags getting cut off on collection day.......

I heard a while back that you got 50 euro if you rat someone out. Times have changed since the Mars bar and can of coke!!!

It was 50 quid old money in the early 80's and at that time that would have been 1/2 a weeks wages.

People on the dole are allowed 12 days annual holidays abroad but must declare them in advance.

With the price of some Ryanair flights travelling it is no big deal for someone on the dole and in fact it is often cheaper to fly overseas than it is to drive or take the train to Dublin plus everything else is cheaper abroad.

Where can I report Anglo Irish Bank for Corporate Welfare Fraud? 22,000,000,000EUR is just taking the piss in my opinion.

How do any of us know for certain who's entitled to social welfare payments and who isn't.

Isnt it a bit unfair to report somebody just because YOU dont think they're entitled! Whos to know what goes on behind closed doors.

Although I am well aware of the fact that there are alot of people out there scamming the country, there are also alot of people who dont look like they need the money but are entitled.

2 holidays a year and a couple of nights out a week does not mean they're scamming the country!

There's also an online form you can use to report it

You are kidding me....... I know someone that was claiming social welfare and has had 3 (yes 3) holidays abroad this year with another one to come in Oct. I was feckin delighted when the person got cut-off just recently. Someone had reported the situation and the Social had been keeping an eye on matters.

It pisses me off no end because I work hard, have a decent job but still struggle to make ends meet. Its three years since I have had a holiday abroad and my socialising is minimal.

For those honest folks that deserve the welfare I have no problem but all the scroungers that are not entitled should be cut-off without any hesitation.

What does this have to do with the Limerick Forum?

There is a still a huge stigma attached to informing in Ireland.

I see where you're coming from and I completely agree, obviously the social welfare looked into that case and saw they were committing some sort of fraud.

However, as Run To Da Hills said above, holidays on ryanair cost nothing these days and just because we might think it isnt fair, some people are just entitled.

I also have a job and pay tax and I do get pissed off too but at the end of the day there are many different types of social welfare payments and alot of people who may not look like they need the money are entitled to receive it even though we might not like it.

the 12 days holiday is a funny one, all it is really is that your allowed 12 days every year to go on a holiday and keep your welfare, theres nothing wrong with that IMO as bills, and rent still need to be paid. btw run to da hills I was getting 80 pound a week in the mid 90's

Theres two sides of the coin to this , yes you have people who bang out a dozen kids, gets their free house then spend all their time drinking cans, smoking and going off to Marbellaaaaaaa for a holiday. But then there are people who are genuinely out of work, get the chance to go on a cheap and cheerful last minute holiday and go, you can go to pretty much and sun destination for a couple of hundred quid if you fly ryanair and book a hotel last minute, its easily done, its not like they're flying out to Vegas and staying in a presidential suite now is it.

I dont agree that people who have never worked a day in their life should be given everything for nothing, but people on jobseekers for recently losing their jobs shouldnt have the stigma attached that if you set foot outside the country or do something fun then you're obviously a welfare cheat, its nonsense.

This totally irrelevant in some ways but an umeployed guy who assulted a friend badly and robbed me in town one night, asked in court when the hearing was being set to change it because he was going on a two week sun holiday. Oh my blood boiled!
Please no offence to people, Im not saying anything bad about the unemployed, just him !!

I know a few people who are claiming various benefits they are not entitled to but typical irish, I wont dob them in!

That some here find Social Welfare fraud unacceptable but its perfectly fine not to pay your taxes as long as you donate a fraction of what you should be paying to charity.

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭Nockz

I haven't a clue as to what I am entitled to and that's being dead honest. My problem though is whether the crowd in partiular are easy living from SW fraud or because they may be involved in the drugs trade and what have you.

One is taking something you're not entitled to, the other is not paying something which you're perfectly entitled not to pay. One is illegal, the other isnt.

For following a user to another thread to continue an arguement from another thread you have earned a week long ban

Ahhhhh if only people were so vigilant about recriminating the true fraudsters of the world.. Misappropriate 200 quid a week from the dole office and it's straight to the guillotine -embezzle half a billion and the 'government' (read: taxpayer) will pick up the bill. Lahvly!

How does anyone know who's paying for social welfare claiments holidays? I know of people who are claiming (legitimatly) and family & friends chip in & treat them to a couple of hundred euro holiday. Big deal! Just because some people who are employed have different financial priorites, dosn't mean you can judge & begrudge someone else a holiday!!

When it comes to reporting anyone, I just think karma is a bitch.. I personally wouldn't want to put negative feelings toward anyone which could later come back and bite me on the bum :D

You never know what situation you could end up in in the future

This thread is not about People who are inside of the rules - It never has been - Its about the People who are weaving the rules into a nice and very profitable little career for themselves.

    - There's a difference no?

Are you implying "Judge not lest thee become a Social Welfare Fraudster?????"

    - There's a number of conscious decisions, cynical calculations, deceitful steps and made along the way to land you on that particular Path......

    :D

    Hmmmm.

That's one of the main reasons why People such as myself will often shy away from spurring People into making correct, conscionable, socially-aware decisions based around the well established but much maligned model of using fictional Televisual Dogs as inspiring Role Models.

    What about the Littlest Hobo?

    - Or was he a Leg Humper, don't want to lead the Girl astray now....... :o

I know a guy who is on the widows pension. His wife died in a tragic road accident 10 yrs ago when he was 30.He got over her death and is now on a widows pension for life.He now has a girlfriend and they have a child together. She claims unmarried mother allowance from he parents address and he gets his pension and neither should be living together as I checked the rules regarding these payments. This has been going on for a number of years now and annoys me as i am married with 3 kids my wife doesn`t work.I recently got a job paying €388.42 after tax and have to wait 21 weeks for FIS to come through yet my neighbours have a combined income from welfare of of €410 approx for sitting at home.
    **SHOULD I REPORT THEM ??**

It always amazes me how some people know what others are claiming, how does someone know that the girl living with her boyfriend is getting lone parents? Are they rooting through their post? How do you know that the person who doesn't leave their house but goes on three holidays a year isn't working from home?

I really think there should be one form for everyone on welfare to fill in, and from that it can be decided what someone is entitled to, it would do away with the widows/lone parents/carers/disabled/job seekers/FIS/back to education and the multiple of other sections that are really doing the same job but not talking to each other, that would save us a lot of money as a country. Oh and reducing the 600million we give in foreign aid would help too.

Why is this a Limerick thread though?
