Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was recently made redundant and am due to go on JSB once my months notice runs out. However there is one issue in my head. I have 15k in savings in the credit union from my redundancy and just minor savings. Will this stop them giving me and welfare? Do they check this?

If it was the case that they didn't give me any money due to the fact I had savings would it not make sense to withdraw all the money and give it to my mum or buy a car or another asset?

You have to declare everything but you are allowed have up to €20,000 without it being assessed as means.

The formula for assessing the value of capital including property (but not your own home), savings and investments is as follows:
    Capital Weekly means assessed
    First €20,000 Nil
    Next €10,000 €1 per €1,000
    Next €10,000 €2 per €1,000
    Balance (€40,000 +) €4 per €1,000

just tinking about it, in all my accounts i think i have 19k. As this is under the 20k cut off point does this mean is doesnt matter. As for the formula im not sure what it means and how it affects you. do they take money off your weekly entitlement for every 1000 you have above 10,000?

Well when i signed on for JSB i didnt have to declare nothing or show any bank statements, as far as i know its only when your on JSA that you have to show them as its means tested

You will be fine mate, its JSB that you will be claiming your dole on which is good for 9 or 12 months all depending how many stamps you have, so really your just claiming back what you put in on tax
