Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Good evening,

Can anyone help me with the settings on a Nikon D80 camera with a speedlight SB -600. I am so new to photography, l am attending a wedding tomorrow and would really like to know the settings l should use for shooting inside. I have experimented with a few settings but they all seem to be really bright.. any help at all would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance

My - albeit - simple piece of advice would be to avoid a 'full frontal' whereby you direct the flash directly at the subjects. Try to 'bounce' the light from the flash onto a ceiling (even high ceilings) or an available wall. This will both reduce the flash strength and also reduce unslightly shadows.
I usually change my white balance settings to suit flash too.
    Hope that helps.

Set your camera to Manual, set shutter at 160 and Aperture at 5.6.
Tilt flash head at 45 degrees and take a few test shots.
    Lets know how it goes.

I wouldn't normally say this, but maybe keep everything in full auto, for the wedding? Then start to read up about exposure in general, and move over to aperture priority, shutter priority and full manual as you learn more and more.

I don't think you can really ask for some general all-in-one settings from someone here that can't see what the conditions are on the given day at the location. How you set up your camera will depend on ambient lighting conditions/the focus you are trying to achieve/etc.

I'd recommend you read up on exposure settings and learn how to read the meter.

Are you giving your flash time to recycle (recharge) after each shot ?
