Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey, hope someone can help with this.

My sons mad to play the electric guitar, he's only 6 so was wondering if anybody can recommend somewhere for lessons? Or even if you can get lessons for a 6 year old or should he start with something more basic? Sorry but I have no experience with this at all! Around the Dub 12 area, or Newbridge in Co Kildare.

    Cheers :)

Sorry just saw the sticky for not requesting lessons! Apologies! Would still like to know though if 6 is too young for electric guitar, thanks.

I started playing guitar at around six and think it is a good age to start. I didn't get my first electric untill i was nine and would not reccomend it as a beginner guitar.

I would recomend starting with a nylon string guitar, as they are smaller so would be easier for a kid to play. Also nylon strings are not as hard on the fingers as metel strings, so is more suited to a beginner. They also tend to be cheaper so if he decides to give up it won't be as hard on the pocket.

As for lessons, they're usually easy enough to come buy, from my experience around 10-30euro an hour.

I say if the kid wants an electric guitar, get him an electric guitar! You can get 1/2 size guitars that are perfect for 6-10 year-olds, with a small amp, for €100 or so if you look around.

My son started on an electric guitar when he was 8 and had no real problems the strings. Kids that age will find their fingers get sore after an hour or so but they won't play more than 30 minutes at a time anyway.

Probably your best bet would be to find a teacher first, and see what he/she recommends.
