We don't get a "bonding day" because there's too many of us. Every year but this year we went away for the week the JC results came out to Delphi but not enough wanted to do it this year so it was cancelled.

Some of us (including me) are going to London for a weekend in a couple of weeks though. :D

So it turns out we do have a bonding trip: we're going to a bog. We went there in primary school and Sunshine12 fell in so she was covered from head to toe (we were going over a bog hole on monkeybars). :pac:

Bogs are surprisingly fun! The state of our class earlier after we came out of some bog hopping. Covered up to the shoulders in muck with even more plastered over our faces. All topped off by a swim in the lake.

    Damo! \o/

We have a trip to The Burren for 3 days in October, going on a Ski Tour in January and Achill for a week in May. We also have a Retreat trip to Macroom or somewhere at some stage I think.

Also, my Work Experience is in January and into February.

I'm doing TY this year! It's fair crap so far though, we've had an induction day (same as the bonding day for you guys I guess) but that was just sitting and being entertained with a guy with a guitar all day!

.. And he wouldn't let me play the guitar. =(

Sooooo how's everyone's first 4 weeks been so far?

I'm loving it here. So far we've done disability awareness and now we're doing PE classs with children from a school for disabled children beside ours. We've done a Law Module, the mock trial was hilarious! We've been ploughing, to plays and watched dvds. Anyone else doing the Student Enterprise Awards or YSI?

it's been amazing. we have three classes and i ended up in the best one. every lesson is just so fun, with the right mix of teachers and students. we play bridge for two class periods every thursday morning and the law studies class is pretty out there as well.

yes to both. gotta finish my application at some point before monday morning or else i'm in real trouble but luckily i have most of it written up. enterprise is compulsory and there are many lols to be had indeed.

i know it's only 4 weeks in but TY is boring me to death D: we are going to 1 play in november and only 10 of us paid so it'll probbaly get cancelled :/ we don't do anything fun, just class after class of the same shiite and soo many 'free' classes. Someone help me fight the boredom !

My TY was like that, if you can move into 5th year and don't believe them when they say it will improve, it will be like that the rest of the year. If not, maybe don't start 5th year work too much (you'll be bored when you do it next year) but perfect your JC work, especially in maths. If you can, pick a subject you were bad at and get good at it.

    I adore TY tbh
Its started for us when we got our JC results, the half day then. Then the day after we had bonding day which meant we went to a few different fun places for the day. Then the week after we had apoetry workshop(actually fun!), went to the ploughing championships and the Friday we went to see a drama thing which was really funny and went out to get our lunch in town after..
This week we didnt really have much but I was at a camogie blitz one day so twaz grand..
We're off to Skibereen(Co. Cork) Tuesday morning and are back Wedensday evening/night and I think I have another Camogie match the Thursday..
The week after I dont know of anything yet...
Then the week after will be spent getting everything ready for French day on the 22nd.. French day is awesome :D
    Then we have mid term

    I love TY :D

Anyone else doing work experience next week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,988 ✭✭✭Monsieur Folie

Finally got my work experience sorted.

My TY experience so far is mixed. I'm enjoying it, but there is still the occasional class that is just as it was for junior cert (namely maths and irish) which is kind of annoying considering all of the other teachers are making an effort to make their class enjoyable and a new experience this year.

Trips aren't exactly plentiful, but the ones that we have gone on have been awesome, and the best is yet to come. =D

    I'm doing TY!
Did an out door pursuits thing at the start of the year and that's been it so far, unless you count a walk in the local castle grounds :p Our over seas trip is to Holland but think I might just take myself off to Spain or some where for half the price. Have been doing p!ss all work really, barely any home work and such. Are selling hoodies for our mini company, had a charity bake sale and went down town collecting for Aware.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,988 ✭✭✭Monsieur Folie

The highlight of our year will hopefully be our trip to Paris. We're paying €525 for a 3 night holiday though, so it better be good.

For out mini company we're selling like, gifts personalised with photographs.. Hardly original but we're not out to make an impression in that area.

Finally managed to get work experience, I'm stuck in accountancy. Through positive thinking I have convinced myself that this is a good thing, as back around 2nd year I wanted to be an accountant, so now I'll be able to see first hand whether it's a viable option.. Much more interested in Science though.

As for TY itself, it's great crack nowadays with the exception of one or two classes! :)

I have my work experience sorted. \o/ I have to do an extra week during my midterm though which sucks. I'm 4 weeks in February including the week of midterm and the 3 weeks before that.

I have a biology trip tomorrow, which should be good. Link.

    Anyone do anything interesting lately?
Did my first week of the St. Munchin's Initiative. We go to a school in an underprivileged area and help them with reading and maths in an attempt to sell education to them. Our teacher said that most of the students would never have seen someone our age still going to school and we have to try show them that it isn't a bad thing.

    Anyone do anything interesting lately?

i haven't been in school for an entire month now. two weeks of community care or 'social placement' as some schools call it. then mid-term. then unscheduled work experience to study nanotechnology.

best thing ever happen on thursday though. while i was on work experience, four kids in my year were called out by our ty coordinator and he said that they were the guys who put down medicine as a potential career interest. i was also on the list but i wasn't there. then he said the school had been allocated one place for medical work experience (not going to go into specifics because i'm SECURITY PARANOID) and he asked who'd be interested. only one person but up his hand. i've been rivals with the kid since last year when he started to try and convince everyone he was smart and tried to pick on kids smaller than him and i basically demolished every argument he started and when he tried to correct my friends' grammar errors on facebook, i corrected his. funny stuff.

so then my ty coordinator asks the four, 'do you think scuid mhór would be interested?'

and GET THIS. my rival goes, 'no i don't think he has interest in medicine AT ALL.'

so luckily for me, my loyal friend chris boldly interjected and said i had a massive interest in it so it came down to drawing our names out of a hat. i wasn't there so my rival got to draw but my friend chris was there as my representative. my rival picked out my name and justice was served accordingly.

it's sunday and i'm still relishing in his disappointment. does that make me a bad person? probably but i don't care, kid tried to stab me in the back.

Bit more work might be needed on capitals. :P

i like it when capitals are used for EMPHASIS.

speaking of changing the laws of the vernacular, i heard the spanish government actually changed a couple of spellings of words, took off accents from some and did other crazy things a few days ago. if they can do it, maybe i can start a petition to get people to agree that capitals shouldn't be compulsory.

Petitions only work if people are willing to sign them. You would then have to get, probably, the Oxford English Dictionary to accept the petition and since the change would affect about 2 billion people world-wide, the petition would have to have 500 million signatures or so to show it is what the people want.

    Good luck with that! :D
