Applying ABA course in Special School

    Hi everyone,

I've just been accepted on to the Post Grad Dip in ABA but have a few concerns about my current situation.

I have been given a full time SNA position with St Michael's House (SMH) where I work with autistic children, and although this is more of an eclectic approach to teaching rather than pure ABA, there is obviously still some ABA approaches in the school. However, I was just wondering if anyone knew how open SMH are to allowing their SNA's to bring in some of the course techniques or interventions (obviously with prior consent) into the classroom?

I don't want to feel like I'm at a disadvantage on my course being in a school that is not pure ABA (although I am aware that most of these 'pilot' ABA schools are changing come Sept. to more "Special Schools" - however they would obviously retain some of their ABA methods of data recording, charting etc).

I would love to remain at SMH as I love it there and have bonded very well with the children, yet my course is my priority now and I want to be able to make the most of it and apply the techniques so as to learn the principles more fully.

If anyone had any feedback regarding any of these issues I'd really appreciate it, thanks :)
