Using JavaScript menus can be a bad idea from an SEO and an accessibility point of view and for the 5% of nutjobs on the Internet who insist on turning JavaScript off.

You'd be much better off using pure html and CSS - this site has some really nice examples that can be restyled quite easily http://www.cssmenus.co.uk/
