vactination is the way to go if you have it. might be best to get bloods taken or if you are milking send off a milk sample

vast majority of dairy farmers are vaccinating against lepto , its rampant , just begin a programme and be done with it is my advice

Would calves coming out dead and stincky be a sign to??had a few cows this year that calved dead calves and then they just srivelled up and died themselves..I got the vet out for two of them that later died and he gave them injections but there was no talk about Lepto out of him.Complete waste of money..he didn't even really no what was wrong with them..it was to late then to get them blood tested cause they died...when do you vacinate when the cows are dry??

er vaccinate twice a year , initially when you start vaccinating you do them day 1 and then 6 wks later , there after every 6 months , some people only do them once a year

could have been a good idea to take the dead calf to the regional lab, we had two aborted last autumn and got tested cos fearing lepto but came back negative, as said test either bloods or milk and vaccinate, leptovoid H is the main product

Lepto can be picked up by humans from cows---that is you-- so be careful and vacinate it is aflue like disease that is hard got rid of in humans it can spread by urine splash in eye---parlour Pit is very dangerous

never heard of anyone vaccinating every six months

you vaccinate them twice the 1st year ( minimum 4 weeks apart ) and once a year thereafter

if we dont do them every 6 months we get abortions , even once i tried to stretch it to 7 months and a cow dropped her calf:mad: different folks different strokes , we have 2 herds and the suckler herd had a breakdown last year , we gave them their first shot and got the second 6 weeks later then every 6 months - that was the vet advice after bloods

If it is lepto and if aborted calf is left in shed say say for 2 to 3 days, is it possible that it could affect cows when dung is spread at a later stage. Or does it spread cow by cow regardless

Urine is the main vector that its spred by. Aborted fetuses should be disposed of properly
