Twilight? Anybody likes it? I truly like the books and I like romance in general. :) I'm actually reading now the last one breaking down, Bella hast just learned she's pregnant or thinks she is.. and Edward is totally anxious :o
That's awesome. Or only for girls maybe!

I do kinda like it at times. I am very much in two minds about it.

There's a spoiler tag just above the place where you type your post, so that what you've written is hidden until someone wants to read it.
    The rules make it mandatory!
But it's no biggee that you didn't know!

I haven't read the books, but I watched the film last Christmas on one of those family occasions (I swear :pac:). I didn't like it personally. :)

I am maybe stupid, but I can't find this tag

Which film? If it's the second one, it's ok! I think the same. But the two others are pretty nice!

No worries! Above the place where you type your post there's loads of icons (such as bold, italics etc) and the rightmost one is a black box with spoiler written in it in white. It doesn't come up in quick edit mode, so you'll want to click "Go Advanced" when editing your post.

Na, the first! I though the plot was a little fake. That whole chase thingy came out of nowhere and basically occupied half the movie. It was like Meyer was in her room writing and thought "Ok, how can I extend this?" and then produced a chance encounter that conveniently occupied half the book.

Also, the lead women actor annoys me. It's frustrating because I know she could be attractive if she just quit those stupid facial expressions she assumes. :D

I'm a secret fan of Twilight, I only admit it at night time when no one is around :D just kidding. What annoys me about the Twilight books is... Bella! She isn't that interesting! I don't think her character is developed enough, I mean if there are two guys mad about her, too fab guys, one a vampire, the other a werewolve, Edward has lived for hundreds of years, met loads of average humans, what is so special about Bella?

Edward falls in love with Bella, no need to explain because there's no explanation !:D

I think a "pulp fiction" or something is desperately needed for this forum. Books like this are just insulting to the term literature...

No! These books are very well written I don't agree with you!

It's quite easy to ignore the threads in which you have no constructive interest, guys. I suggest doing that - the odd thread on Stephenie Meyer or Dan Brown isn't going to act as a catalyst for the impending idiocracy which presumably you fear. Easy to ignore those threads if you don't like them, try doing that.

I love Twilight - read all four books and the 12 chapters of Midnight Dawn on Meyer's website in a week in January. They're chocolate though - bad for you, but sweet and you can't help wanting more. Some people don't like chocolate, but I like lots of it. I also read "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" not so long ago, and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't really Twilight for me.

While Meyer's writing may leave a lot to be desired, the reason Bella is so underdeveloped is so most females will be able to picture themselves as Bella - Meyer even admits that she sees Bella as being much like herself. Ok, so it's a clever, if unsubtle, marketing ploy, but who genuinely cares?

The people who see Twilight as the pinnacle of literature probably wouldn't touch classical literature, modern classics or anything overtly challenging as reading material - forgive the stereotyping for a moment. But the people who are brought to books and reading by Twilight won't stop there.

The people who read Twilight books as chocolate (as I do) won't stop reading what we normally read either. Yes, I read a good share of crap, but I'm entitled to do that, it's my prerogative as a reader.

Anyone who sees Twilight as taking the place on a bookshelf of another more deserving novel is deluded. The people who buy and market books like Twilight do so because they will sell, they have a target audience and they work to it. Something complex and interesting won't fill the same space because it has a different projected niche in a bookshop. Novels like Twilight do, however, finance literature that may not generate enough income of its own to warrant printing without subsidies from the big sellers, or so I've been led to believe.

Yes, I believe that's the case. I'd imagine it's especially true of educational publishing houses such as Oxford University Press, who would use the profits from their mainstream* books - like the Worlds Classics Series - to fund more remote academic titles.

    *relatively speaking!

Academic books tend to pay for themselves, especially when it comes to mainstream specialist publishers like Four Courts Press or Oxford University Press. They tend to be more expensive, and have a guaranteed market. For example, a new study on Clement Atlee is almost guaranteed to sell around 4,000 books, a first time novelist would be lucky to hit the 2,000 mark...

    That's a fair point! :)

I agree! :D This is for me a reason to waste my time properly after studying or using brains for a long. Not bad written, not complicated, chocolate, easy chocolate! Nice!
