people have to have personal responsibility.

Agree 100% ...but... those IN responsibility don't axactly lead by example ...where is that sense of responsibility supposed to be bred from when all around you (in regards to road safety) is half-arsed, dilletantical and sometimes downright cynical?

While I absolutely agree that lots of speed limits are pretty farcical, I'd be doubtful enough about the part above in bold. To achieve that would require raising the limit to the highest conceivable safe speed (IE at least 160 on good stretches of Mway). That would mean that the posted limit would be unsafe (traffic conditions, weather) most of the time. I'm not sure the Irish motorist is evolved enough to pick a safe speed for themselves tbh.

I think the limit of 120 on motorways is fine as it is, what I mean is areas, particular in cities, increasing 50 zones to 80 where safe, as in the country. Dual carrageways also should be 80 or 100, not 60 as in parts of Dublin. Its these sort of limits that, IMO, make breaking the speed limit acceptable.

I think most rural areas have sensable speed limits as is, limits in the cities however I believe are far too low.

I wouldnt for a second think speeding will ever have the same stigma as drink driving, nor do I think it should, but at the moment people laugh (my self included) when I here of someone getting caught donig 70/80 in a 50 zone, but I dont think that would be the case so much if the limit were 80 and someone got caught doing 120 etc

Also on the Crash, may the people invovled Rest In peace, The Passat with the 8 lads in it was invovled in a minor crash 200 metres before hand, according to radio news reports. Lets face it, speed was a major factor in the 8 being killed. I woudl guess that the driver of the Corolla was in all probabality speeding and hit the passat. This is my view of the accident from hearing various news reports and would not expect this to be taken as was actually happened.

After seening pictures and reading more about the accidnet I will withdraw what I taught happened as I was probably wrong.

Young people have just as much right to drive as anyone else, its just a case of regulation!! but who can regulate teens? i came across a keychain breathalyser which i thought was a great tool for parents to check their children

Really dislike anyone suggesting curfew bans and restrictions.

Using any excuse to suppress others to conform to their view.

It is just as easy to ask why was 8 young people crammed into one car, is it beacuse we allowed insurance tax owning a car beyond the reach of so many. Placing barriers in way.

Are all the deaths due to learners driving alone or because there is a disturbing ellement in socity that likes to try control another part of it.

When insurance companies singled out young male drivers and fleeced them with inflated prices. It was terrible to see so many defend insurance companies.

We need to protect the limited liberty and freedom we have and start respecting other rights and stop banning everything with a very narrow mind.
