first build help

Hey guys and gals im thinking of building my first pc if i can sell my laptop if i do get around to it it will be a gaming rig with a budget of around 1200 euro but this will have to include a monitor. This will be my first time building a rig so any help would be welcome as im a complete newbie to building a pc but the main thing im looking for is gaming performance.
I have bought stuff off of komplett.ie before and they are meant to be good on the pc hardware side of things so i suppose id go with them.
Anyway if ye got any advice it would be great .

oh and try pixmania for parts also sometimes a lot cheaper than komplett, make sure what u want is in sock or you could be waiting awhile to =p

tbh i play just about any kind of games fps, rpg's, racing, flight sims so i figure a good gpu is probably the most important aspect of my build, I dont really know anything about any components besides ram gpu's and processors

one question about the above build guys will that motherboard allow sli? because i might want to sli in the future when i get some $ also would ye suggest i get a better GPU or is the gtx 460 good?

do some research into gpu's check out the latest cards of nVidia and ATI Radeon see what you can afford and get it =p

Hey IcySeanFitz,

The GTX460 is a great GPU. All P55 boards to the best of my knowledge support SLi provided they have 2xPCIE slots.

I would change the PSU and Case however. If your trying to keep to a budget then the Antec 300 is an excellent choice, it should offer better cooling a quality to that CaseCom case.

I'd never skimp on a PSU though, and I'm not totally sure of the internals of the BeQuiet Units, one unit I am sure of is the excellent 550W TPN from Antec ( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159918)

Its a very very solid unit. Although If you are looking into SLi, I would recommend a quality 650W unit.

would ye recommend that i go all out with the PSU and get something along the lines of 800W as to try and keep it future proof? is it better to have a PSU with an excess of wattage as opposed to just having the right amount? ive also heard that the corsair psu's are some of the best any truth to this? also is ebuyer a good website to buy off of? they will ship to ireland right?

regarding to cases as this will be my first build would ye recommend that i get a big case so that i wont get the wiring clustered etc. and so find it easier to build, one more question :rolleyes: haha full of em ha; regarding PSU's is it easier for a complete beginner to assemble a computer using a moduler PSU as opposed to the opposite

thanks for that i was also looking at these full tower cases this one in particular http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148685 i know it might be massive and a bit of overkill but i figure it will be easier for me to navigate the insides of the pc while im building it if there is that much space

is it good? it is overkill for what il have when i buy my hardware right now but i figure im going to build onto it bit by bit over the year, tbh i figure alot of pc gaming is overkill anyway also would you know by any chance if dabs.ie is any good for components? im torn between using ebuyer (dont know if they ship to ireland) komplett piximania or dabs

Ive got the 922, and its overkill for me, its got no problem cooling my hardware at all and ive seen plenty of more powerful systems in it and they fit fine with lots of room

I love CM's cases but their PSU's do lack quite a bit, if your looking to futrue proof for a PSU I'd just get the Antec TPN 650W, it will do a quad + GTX460SLi no bother to it

thanks for all the help guys the main reason id buy the full tower is simply because im going to try and make the build as easy as i can for myself with an abundance of space and i figure that case will be completely future proof; just have to try and sell my damn laptop now

hey guys im just wondering do you get a CPU cooler as standard when you buy say an i5 or do you have to buy one separately (also how important are they?), also regarding sound cards do you have to buy one or are the generally integrated into the mobo? also if anyone could point out a good affordable wireless network card id be really grateful.

A very basic one comes as standard. If you want to OC it you'll be looking for a better cooler though.

And there are decent integrated sound chips on mobos nowadays; steer clear of mobos with three audio ports at the back (bottom of the I/O shield, just above the PCIe slots) instead of the usual six as they'll be using older, lower-quality 5.1 hardware rather than the usual decent-quality 7.1 system.

Like Solitaire said, the stock cooler will do fine, if your not overclocking.

Sound cards that are on motherboards nowadays are decent enough so only get a dedicated one if you are a bit of an audiophile.

thanks cable management will probably be my biggest pain in the ass I might overclock the cpu (i5 750) when i get my setup is there any big no's and do's when it comes to OCing like buying certain mobos ram etc. also would dual gtx 460 1gig cards be good for gaming performance as they seem to be relatively cheap

comes in at 1002 euro, i figure i can just use my samsung 40 inch until i save up enough for a monitor. Is there anything that ye would change in this build to save a bit of money or to improve performence?
