I made my comment base on a real case locally earlier this year where two individuals (drug dealers) were sent down for a lengthy stretch based on evidence gathered from covert bugging of both their car and house. I have no doubt that this is common practice now by the authorities in Ireland. Anyone that believes these methods only happen in other countries aren't living in the real world.

Considering the force cannot afford to even supply mobile phones to the troops, I think massively expensive journalistic cameras, lads going in and installing webcams (including monitoring equipment and men on the other end), sudden secret operational meeting rooms - is a step too far. That kind of surveillance would takes months and months of red tape (putting in requests for equipment is a paperwork heavy and slow process) and money (not to mention specialist operators), it's not the kind of thing that gets put in place over a weekend.

And the antics of the graffiti spraying guards or the threatening behaviour to yer man in the jeep - case would be thrown out if a judge was made aware that these methods were in use.

How these thing really happen would make boring tv.

Look at all the guessing going on in this thread, we haven't a clue what's going to happen :D Just how it should be.

The pipe bomb angle is an interesting thought alright, he did look like a traveller and so did yer man at the dog dag fight.

No way. They wouldn't have the budget or level of sophistication being shown.

    Of course they do

Guys, I've made a connection. The guy at the very start of the episode who looks at Nidge is this guy from season 2:
    2epim9w.png

and here he is again last night.
    1zo9q9c.png

When Nidge saw him hanging around with Fran, he looks very anxious. This is because he probably knows that Nidge used the pipebomb he made for him on Fran's house. This foreshadowing, especially with the mention of Linda on the trailer for episode 5, definitely hints at a confrontation between Fran and Nidge.
EDIT: I've spotted something else. Fran says to Nidge ''the country is ****ing rotten so it is..''. Then he makes this face:

    71rchy.png

And immediatedly after he says, ''are we cool?''. Looks like he's suppressing his anger. That pipebomb maker told him about Linda, i'm sure of it.

I would. Very surprised. There is quite a lot of 'artistic licence' being used. But what the hell, it makes for fun tv. So what if the judge would throw the case out in real life cos the Guards didn't follow proper procedures.

Dont think they will kill off nidge anytime soon.
Would be a huge loss to the show.

    From the link you posted:
But he said surveillance operations like this were hugely resource intensive: "It involves phenomenal manpower. Putting such an operation in place now is not physically possible."

Which is exactly what I've been saying, cheers for the backup link!

Ah lads ffs in all fairness like there's some serious gowling going on in this thread.

The gardas arrest people for mickey mouse offences all the time. There is no way they would let this go in real life.

    Go on... you're nearly there!

So if they find a lad in the boot of a car they'd just let it go?

Ffs will ya cop on its farsical to believe that nothing would come from it and just afterwards the victim an main suspect are chatting.

Even if they'd left it a few days it'd be much more believable.

    See above
It loses money, they were looking for a sponsor for this series and couldn't get one, RTE tried to postpone this season until 2014 to save money but obviously didn't because of the uproar it would cause.

    Source?

Its obvious the actor that plays fran never done much gardening by the way he was holding the shovel in the graveyard.

Ya, totally not realistic ffs. If this was real life he'd be complaining of blisters. RTE making a sham of tv making again  (I know you're being sarcastic, that was aimed at others...)
    BertMark wrote: »
With all due respect Jumboman, how much do you know about what it costs to finance a top level TV production?

    That'd be none I'd say

    Jumboman wrote: »
I'd imagine that most of the crew that worked on the show are already on the rte pay roll so that should keep the cost down.

TV shows should not cost more than movies.

Every movie is more expensive to make than every tv show, ever. This is known.
I think Wayne plays a young psychopath very well and Lizzie is a very multi faceted character. If she isnt swooning over Darren, shes shooting him dead. If she isnt asking Wayne to show Nidge sympathy at the day of his mothers funeral she is bashing a stranger over the head with a tire iron

I think it was just her way of getting out. Also, it didn't hurt that yer man she bashed over the head deserved at the least a solid nutting to the bridge of the nose. He's the ultimate stereotypical Irish wanker.
    CountryJoe wrote: »
I initially thought when we saw her in the back of the squad car, that would be her final scene. However now I rekon with the irish legal system she will most likely be out on bail within a few hours. She could still pose a problem for Nidge.

This is very interesting. Given she's a person of interest to the gardai being from a RA family they might be keen on her. Given that all her family are dead though it's hard to call. Also, with the Dano situation that complicates things. However, it seems like she wants to go to jail so she could sway interviews in that direction, without actually being a rat or confessing.

meh i didt like that episode it seemed all over the place TBH its trown the season of course for me now as i liked eps 1-3 building up but tonight was crap IMO

hopefully next week tells a better story

the fran stuff tonight was unfunny IMO there taking that character to parody levels now IMO
then the kidnapping of the boy they kidnapped him and didt really go far eh the garda caught him very quickly AMAZING LOL

So LOL, much IMO, so brave, so bad spelling, so wow.
Me too, usually, but I feel like Nidge is getting a little bit too invincible for the line of work he's in since becoming the "star". There isn't much of a sense of genuine peril towards him anymore.

Are you serious? It was 50/50 in this episode as to whether Dano was finally going to get him, Lizzy was in his house with a machine gun and the gardai have bugs all over him and will most likely be able to squeeze the dentist. Ah yeah, Nidgy is totally invincible.
It's not so much that I'd have a problem with her bashing him in general, just that knowing what was at stake for her you'd think she'd have let it go and concentrated on the bigger picture? Was it really worth getting arrested over and pretty much throwing the mission in the process?

Pretty sure that was intentional given how she sat and waited for the gardai
No way. They wouldn't have the budget or level of sophistication being shown.

Ah now, a few webcams, transponders and radios streaming to a few laptops isn't exactly NSA level stuff.
Strange given that cops intelligence said he has access to 8 vehicles

I thought he said 8 phones?

The boot scene was for me a very poor scene. All that action and seriousness and a few minutes later the cops are gone and all the hoods are hanging around. I don't even think the team of cops trailing Nidge so so closely even mentioned it, or got to hear of it. No way the cops would have just left Wayne there and no way a little bit more investigation would have not taken place.

I just want to say, to all the nit-picking social degenerates on this thread, why do you even bother posting? Week after week the 'critics' come to this thread and their main argument is over fking retarded nonsense. ''Wah wah, the grafitti is too big, wah wah, in real life they wouldn't done this, wah wah, Darren's tribal tattoo was on his left arm instead of his right'' .. Ye're probably the sons of the old crones ringing up liveline complaining.. At least give actual critique of the show and not blabber on about minute discrepancies. Christ. Love/Hate is one of the best things to ever come from RTE, yet you aren't satisfied. You need to understand that this isn't some American drama with a 500million dollar budget on the lines of Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad. I reckon this series had less than a 5million budget, yet they're getting their money's worth. Please go away.

Me too, usually, but I feel like Nidge is getting a little bit too invincible for the line of work he's in since becoming the "star". There isn't much of a sense of genuine peril towards him anymore.

For me that is the shows greatest weakness this season. They plaay fast and loose with that (above and beyond the call of 'dramatic licence' imo) The final straw in the sarcrifice of credibility was Nidge hiding under the bed. That was funny rather than tense.
Who would go into a prone, defenseless position like that (he knew she had
a machine gun ffs!) and only had to spray the room. Ridiculous really in a series that has been so careful about it's true to life aspects.
The whole thing is now a bit all over the place and it really shouldn't be at this stage of the season unless they are just padding and treading water for a season. Tommy's 'speech from the lap' was a bit cringe inducing too.
Things happen very quickly like Wayne's defection while others take for ever to develop (Tommy and Siobhan's story) which is unbalancing the whole thing.
Still some standout moments of acting and writing though. I just hope we are not heading towards a season ending bloodbath that ends untidy issues lazily.

I had forgotten about the bedroom scene. It made **** all sense. He gets a samurai sword and has the look of a man ready to rip someone apart and then he's stuck under a bed with the sword looking completely useless.

That's why he's still alive, he's smarter than some of the others - Don't bring a sword to a gun fight.

I think the problem with the show is that many people maybe overrate it and when someone critiques it they may get a wee bit annoyed.

I love reading all the guess work. Its half the fun trying to make predictions especially when some scenes are thrown in to lead us astray.
I wonder does Stuart Carolan read the thread... He'd probably think some of our storylines are better than his own :P

Some of the guessing is very obvious. Like Wayne being offered a job and Dano getting taken out.
