Add me to the list. I shall be in 5th year too. I'm just after completing the JC.

I'm going into fifth, it could change between now and September but more than likely not! :(

I don't think I'm going to start worrying about the LC till 6th year so probably wont be around here much, maybe before christmas tests etc. we'll see how it goes..

Yeah i am quite worried about who i will get as my french and english teachers. I already know my business teacher who is absolutely fantasic, he is actually the best teacher i've ever had. My music teacher there's only one in the school and i had her for JC she got me my A in Higher so i am happy with her.. There's 3 main geography teachers but i really want one particular one, but if i do not get her i don't really mind as the other 2 are just as good. I do HL Maths so i know who my teacher is... HATE HER HATE HER HATE HER.. She is dog ignorant, i am serious i dont think any of you will ever realise how bad she is, in class she does not communicate but she looks at the ceiling so she wonthave to make eye contact, ifyou ask her a question she tells you it's ridiculous and stupid and the sheer speed she moves through the course is unbelievable..

But anywho, i am doing Maths Irish English French Music Business Geography and am really considering Economics outside of school.. anyone else trying to do this?

Yeah,I hope I get the teachers I like aswell, hopefully I'll be able to switch to their class anyway,it's mainly just the irish teacher I want,he's amazing, having had 3 different awful teachers I finally got somewhere in Irish when I had him as a teacher.:D

I think I might try geography outside of school,I'm not sure yet though because I'll be taking the religion exam in 6th year to try and do better in the LC.

Hi, i'm a n00b round here . . . going into 5th year, did TY, was a great year but i'm now officially brain dead . . . doing Gaeilge, english, maths, french, biology, chemistry, economics and i'm doing ag. science outside of school . . . 5th year will make a nice change from the end of 4th year, the last 2 months were a bit lame, but i think i'll be wishing 4th year was back within about two weeks . .. the rumour in our school is that the teachers give you more work to do on the 1st september than they will any other day in the year, to shock us!!!

    chill guys!

Im just after finishing my lc and YES 6th year IS hard, lots of study and no time for socialising or sh*tin around on any day of the week!!! but in relation to 5th year - go to school, do your homework and study when there are up and comming tests (like for halloween, Christmas etc.) and you'll be grand honestly!!! :pac: I did TY and yes it is hard getting back into the swing of things when going into 5th year but u'll soon adapt and get back to your busy selves! (u dont have much choice when it comes to 6th year anywhoo! :D

Oh and dont stress too much over class tests! u do most of your learning for the exam in 6th year anyway! G. luck! :)

To the person above thinking of doing Economics outside of school.
    Not advisable. At all.
Its a fairly short syllabus. But its a fairly hard syllabus at that.
There's two sections, ie: Micro and Macro.
One side deals with the economy in terms of business'/taxes etc.
And one side is just all diagrams, theorems and maths type questions.
It requires a lot of work really, to learn it all.

As my career's teacher said, One shouldn't take up an extra subject outside of school because it causes more stress. Most schools do 7 exam subjects, which is 1 extra which really is enough. Its bad enough studying for 7, never mind 8!

Going into 6th year here, btw!

I think I will actually really enjoy 5th year. I know this sound weird but I am the type of person that needs structure on a daily basis, I realised this in TY that having 9 classes a day and doing homework and study on evenings and weekends is somewhat comforting to me. I love the idea of being tested and pushing myself to my intellecutal limits in all of my subjects. I LOVE doing exams and getting results, this stems from my Piano playing where constant assessment is needed for general improvement. I will be quite busy next year between studying hard (I'm an overachiever 100% is what i strive for, )Finishing my Piano degree, (I also give lessons on a Saturday) and finishing my Life Guard Qualification SUMMER JOB WHOOOOO!!..

I am doing 8 Subjects and LCVP.

English, Irish, Maths, French, Music, Business, Geography, Accounting, not too sure what I would like to do after school however I am thinking Child Psychology, Or English Geography and Childrens Studies!!

I just finished 5th year and for the most part its pretty good :) You meet more people and settle in more and study the subjects you like! :) But don't be blinded by that it is a lot of work sometimes but a good foundation is key for leaving cert :)

5th year was alright, I prefer it to JC anyway! You feel more independent and your given more freedom, both in school and with parents, in my case anyway.

I am going in to sixth year this year but thought i would lend advice!
Dont do chemistry unless a) you love it and understand it or b) you want to do medicine or something which you need chem for!
It really does take the time of two subjects for both homework and study!

Also i would advise to revise some JC maths if you can becasue they will ask you nething in the leaving cert. But you have the new corse project maths so it will be easier for you! :)

Have fun in fifth year! (Its the best year of your life) NOT!

I didnt do TY but I thought 5th year was the best year of school. Parents get more trusting, as do teachers and principles. Also the teachers dont really care if you do your homework or not (unlike JC). I'd only advise to do your homework unless you actually like studying or are doing higher maths. In 6th year yeh do PLENTY of study to catch up from last year.
When I was in 6th year the whole LC thing didnt actualy hit me till the mocks, then I was like !!! Best advice I'd give to 6th years would be to do late night study (if your school offers it). Relaxing yet workman-like atmosphere encourages yeh to study and something good always happens during the break. And then there's the (odd) days when a h-dip covers for one of the main teachers:D (I'm in an all boys school). Worst thing about LC is the mid-term (and end of term) holidays, you're always stuck inside studying or at a revision course or something. Defo do a sport, nice distraction until about May when its time to take a two month break.

What subjects are you all taking? I'm doing English, Irish, Maths, French, Chemistry, Biology and Business. All honours except for Irish and Maths (the most important honours subjects )
I'm quite nervous. ****ting it, even.
I'll probably need to go to learning support for the first week or two so that they can reteach me how to write after TY!

Avoid chemistry at all costs unless you have a mind for calculations and more of a mathsy geared mind. I found it difficult in TY. Hopefully things will change.
